Great article by Meta on the breakthrough and challenges of integrating AV1 codec support into mobile RTC systems. On top of this, it's a great analysis/report on the metrics that make a video call experience smooth and high-quality. Kudos to the author - shyam sadhwani for a comprehensive and a really informative post.

With the right software (Norsk) and the right hardware (AMD), broadcasters and streaming publishers can reach their full potential while keeping costs and power consumption down.
Norsk is working closely with AMD to empower broadcasters and publishers to do more with less. More: • Higher throughput • Video transcoding and enrichment with Norsk on high-density hardware, the Alveo MA35D, so you can free up CPU resources • Increased channels and streams per card Less: • Lower cost • Lower power consumption • Lower latency #livestreaming #highdensity #lowlatency

Ever wondered how can your mobile phone play a video recorded by an ultra high definition camera and with hundreds of gigabytes in size smoothly? Technology advancements and demand for high resolution video have significantly increased in the past decades. Users are now able to stream 4K content on their devices without any interruption. This revolution caused the file sizes of these videos to go from few megabytes to hundreds of gigabytes making it hard for content providers to store and manage large files. It has also increased the demand for highly capable network solutions to handle the data traffic sent with the increase of digital content. But what is the solution, can companies continue expanding their data servers? This is where compression technologies come into play. Content providers can shrink the size of 100GB file to 100MB in order to distribute these files to the end user. There are dozens of compression technologies in the market that make the day to day video distribution smooth and possible. The goal of each compression (codec) can be different for example the H.264 generation of codecs are used for distribution purposes therefore, used in streaming platforms like Youtube. Conversely, codec like JPEG XS, targets professional environments like live production or broadcast where high quality video data is contentiously sent from venue for example a stadium to the studios and to the viewers without any latency and quality degradation. #videocompression #codecs #broadcast #liveproduction #Compressiontechnologies #H264 #JPEGXS #tech

Platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Disney+ have seen significant subscriber growth. This surge has attracted SEP owners to create new licensing programs for over-the-top video Internet streaming. The launch of Avanci Video marked the beginning of this trend, followed by increasing bilateral SEP licensing activities from top patent owners. The recent Nokia deal with a direct-to-consumer video streaming platform confirms these market rumors. Once the first deal is signed, others are expected to follow soon. But who are the main players in the market? Who owns most of the VVC patents, and what percentage is covered by patent pools and platforms? We have all these insights in our recent report: Who Is Leading the VVC Patent Race? Discover more by accessing the most recent LexisNexis Intellectual Property Solutions report below.
