“We only open stores when there is a good opportunity!” 💥 👀 In an ever changing and evolving market and challenging times like these only retailers and those to be, will be successful when they have a bulletproof retail footprint strategy in place. The so called “opportunistic opening” approach like mentioned in the headline might not do the job anymore. But what does it take to create, negotiate, and execute a winning strategy that not only meets space needs but also aligns with brand requirements while fostering growth? It's not just about securing physical spaces; it's about orchestrating a symphony of market mapping, prioritization, and relationship-building across cross-functional teams. It is not the question anymore if a brand implements an omni-channel strategy but more how well they are able to do that. Other sales channels like ecommerce, wholesale and franchise must work hand in hand with retail and lift each other up. Evaluate, negotiate, and drive new store opportunities end-to-end process, inclusive of proformas, demographics, analytics, letters of intent, design criteria, area and market maps, sales forecasts, etc. to determine store financial feasibility is key when it comes to execute the strategy. By developing strong relationships, conducting meticulous site reviews, and evaluating opportunities with precision it will be ensured that every space aligns with the brand vision and financial goals. As we expand across Canada and the USA, we look forward to propelling the business into the future.    Our Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Wong, shares, "Aritzia delivered second quarter net revenue of $534 million, an increase of approximately 2% on top of outstanding growth of 50% in the second quarter of Fiscal 2023 and 75% in the second quarter of Fiscal 2022.”   Wong continues, "Following two years of unprecedented growth that resulted in a 39% three-year net revenue CAGR in Q2 of Fiscal 2024, we’re continuing to position ourselves for the next phase of expected growth and invest in the scalability of our business. Entering the third quarter, our new styles for Fall are resonating well with our clients, and we expect our assortment to be in a strong position for Spring/Summer 2024. Insights from Dana Telsey of Telsey Advisory Group for Barron's are a source of optimism for the year ahead, and she highlights 6 retail stocks to keep an eye on in 2024, emphasizing innovation, value, and brand. Another great quarter for the Douglas Group! Today we published our financial results for the period April to June 2024, and we continue to deliver what we promised at our IPO earlier this year: profitable growth, fast progress with the implementation of our #LetItBloom strategy to support our development – and a clear strategic focus on customers and our core business: premium beauty. Here are my personal business highlights from the third quarter and the first nine months of 2023/24: 💄 We continue to show strong financial performance. Our Group sales (net) are up 7.3% to around 977 million euros in Q3 and up 8.7% to around 3.5 billion euros in the first nine months of our financial year. We have improved our adjusted EBITDA by 5.6% to 162.9 million euros in Q3 and by 11.5% to 657.1 million euros in the first nine months. 🎯 We continue to apply strategic focus. In line with “Let it Bloom”, we are sharpening our profile as a customer-centric premium beauty retailer. To this end we have successfully completed the sale of online pharmacy Disapo at the end of July. We are expanding our store network, including highlight openings such as the House of Beauty in Vienna. And come September, our website, online shop and app will get a new look and feel for a consistent premium brand experience across all channels – no matter where customers want to shop. 📈 We raised our sales guidance for the current year. On the back of sustained positive business development and strong sales (net) numbers for the third quarter and first nine months, we have raised our guidance for the financial year 2023/24 on 17 July 2024: We now expect net sales to grow around 8.5% (previously: around 7%) and are well on track to deliver our mid-term earnings forecast of an expected adj. EBITDA margin of around 18.5%. Given the current consumer climate, this is a remarkable performance by the entire team at the DOUGLAS Group. Our sustained strong performance and continued growth truly demonstrate the resilience of our business model. We’ll continue to build on this success and our strong brand. I would like to thank our customers, partners, and investors, but most of all the team and all colleagues behind this success. You can be very proud of what you have achieved. U.S. hiring slowed in October while unemployment rate rose to 3.9%, per U.S. Department of Labor.  Consumer sentiment fell 6% in October vs previous month, per University of Michigan. Inventory-to-sales ratios have returned to pre-pandemic levels and inflated stock levels are in past, reports the National Retail Federation. 63 million sq ft of retail space will open in 2023, per Coresight Research. U.S. Autoworkers won labor concessions from management of the “Big Three” American auto manufacturers, ending the strike. 72% of Gen-Z consumers plan to start holiday shopping in November while many pause major purchases until end of December, per Blackhawk Networks’ 2023 holiday forecast. M&A AND FINANCING NEWS Simon Property Group divested part of its’ stake in SPARC Group LLC (apparel manufacturer), bringing total ownership to 33%. Missguided (multichannel retailer owned by Frasers Group) sold its IP to SHEIN. Natura &Co confirmed it is in exclusive talks with AURELIUS for the sale of The Body Shop. The 7 Virtues Beauty Inc. (fragrance) raised capital from Unilever Ventures and True Beauty Ventures. Eurmoda (accessory supplier) acquired Macuz (metal accessory supplier).  IFF sold Lucas Meyer Cosmetics to Clariant, a supplier. Gozen (lab-grown leather) raised $3.3M from Happiness Capital | Certified B Corp, SOSV, and others. Bank of America amended the $900 MM credit facility with Neiman Marcus Group. PUBLIC COMPANY NEWS Amazon reported better than expected earnings and sales.
