Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G-6’s Post

The Army Cyber Corps, the Army’s newest branch, provides several career opportunities for Soldiers to “Be All You Can Be” in the growing and competitive cyber field. The Army Cyber Corps is a maneuver branch with the mission to conduct defensive and offensive cyberspace operations. There are two Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) within the Cyber Corps for enlisted Soldiers: Electromagnetic Warfare Specialist (offensive) and Cyber Operations Specialist (defensive). Electromagnetic Warfare Specialists (MOS 17E) are systems protection experts who respond to adversary attacks by using “electromagnetic and directed energy to control the electromagnetic spectrum” and target “adversary activities and capabilities.” Cyber Operations Specialists (MOS 17C) defend the Army’s systems and respond to adversary attacks. This includes using cutting-edge technology and skills to disrupt cybercriminals while safeguarding the Army’s communications and helping to prevent phishing attacks, locate international hacker networks, recognize dangerous ransomware, and improve cyber intelligence. Why is Cyber Operations Specialist 17C being advertised as only Defensive in this post? 17c are "hands on keyboard" folks on on both OCO and DCO sides of the house. Where-as our 17e community is primarily focused on the electromagnetic spectrum. This seems like a glaring omission if your using this posting to recruit talent.

Is there anything for officers? I clicked the link and I didn’t see anything. If I overlooked it, I apologize!

In my opinion, this is good stuff, I have taken and completed/passed the cybersecurity boot camp course, amazing courses. Today my focus is setting up a facility , a cyber war center for folks to do real battles, red hat, blue hat , grey hat and black hat. Could G-6 sponsor such facilities?, we already have a school, all we need is sponsorship to get going. Go ARMY, I once was a soldier, “Once a soldier always a soldier”. Today we are designing a communications container to aid our soldiers on the battlefield, cyber is included.

It’s hard to get a school seat, everyone wants to get into this MOS, I was thinking about it, and it’s over year long, and also I believe there is prerequisites to be looked at
