📢"Main St. Shield's Weekly Dispatch: Navigating the Supply Chain Seas"
🔵 Canada West Coast Ports Strikes: The strikes have finally ended, with a new deal being accepted. The brief restart of the strike last week added to the existing supply chain congestion, with $6.5 billion in trade anchored offshore. As operations resume, we anticipate a gradual easing of the congestion.
✈️ U.S. Import Demand: SONAR's data reveals a drop in U.S. import demand for containerized goods, indicating potential declines in the second half of 2023. As supply chain professionals, we're closely monitoring these trends to navigate the changing landscape effectively.
🚚 Yellow Corp. Strike Averted: The planned strike at Yellow Corp. has been called off, with Central States Funds agreeing to extend health care benefits for YRC Freight and Holland employees. This development helps maintain stability in the less-than-truckload sector.
🌍 MAERSK's New Air Cargo Hub: MAERSK has inaugurated a new air cargo hub in Atlanta, expanding their air freight services. This strategic move is expected to enhance the company's flight operations and contribute to the overall efficiency of air freight.
🚢 Container Lines Q2 Results: Early disclosures suggest that container lines have managed to stabilize their operations. Matson, for instance, projects a Q2 2023 net income of between $76.3 million and $81.5 million, more than double their Q1 2023 net income.

1moA source told me that the Trudeau administration will likely lean on the CIRB not to issue any decision until Parliament is back in session, or at least close enough to it. To me, that would signal that we're not going to get a decision until mid-to-late August. Trudeau has to worry about the New Democratic Party (NDP) which is very pro-labor, but I would also think even the NDP knows a strike can only go on for so long until it creates real economic havoc, which voters remember.
