We're already making an impact in the Sheffield community by decarbonising the city and creating a sustainable heating future with help from our biomass-fuelled power plant, Blackburn Meadows.   A system delivering heat to homes and workplaces is an alternative to gas boilers. Not only are heat networks often the lowest cost low-carbon heating option, but they also mean lower energy bills for you and a smaller environmental footprint for all of us 👣🌍   We've submitted plans to double it's size. 📣 A waste sector recap: Everything that has happened this March. 👏 We hosted the first of our member exclusive tri-annual Group Meetings this month. Another huge thank you to all our members and guest speakers who attended: Roger Kremers from AVR, Christoph Heemsoth from swb Entsorgung GmbH & Co. KG, Ylva Centerlund from Sysav, Erlend Ragnvaldsen from BIR, Mark Terrell from Andusia Holdings Limited, Rob Scarpello from the Environment Agency, and Anders Pettersson and Thomas Jonsson from Vattenfall. 🗣 Our Group Chair Andy Jones Managing Director of Totus Environmental Limited, alongside Gavin Armstrong Technical Manager of member organisation SOCOTEC, spoke at the 2024 Energy from Waste Conference in London. 📈 The UK’s landfill tax rates are increasing by 20% from April 2024. The standard rate will now rise to £126.15 per tonne (up from £102.10) and the lower rate will rise to £4.05 per tonne (up from £3.25). 🏭 Enfinium plans to launch a CCS trial this July at its Ferrybridge facility.
