When self-publishing authors are writing a stage play, they must consider the limitations of theatre. The larger the cast and the more settings a story has can limit which theatre companies have the resources for production. Playwrights should take a minimalist approach to their stage plays. Every character and setting should have a purpose. If it doesn’t, it should be removed. Learn more about writing a stage play at: https://lnkd.in/eE7vjgiu

Having proofread a recent draft, "A Sense of Theatre" is a genuine masterpiece. Richard Pilbrow tells not only the story of the conception and birth of the National Theatre, but also delves deeply into the design team's struggle to explore and agree upon why the new spaces matter and what theatre at its essence is, finally coming to realize, “…that theatre doesn't begin and end with the rise and fall of the curtain.” If you have even a passing interest in the planning, design, and construction of performance spaces, and some desire to better understand the enormity of the process of starting and completing a major capital project in the real world where art, technology, and politics collide, you’ll want - and will enjoy - this book.
Be Part Of A Sense of Theatre - Or Just Get The Book! 'A Sense of Theatre' is Richard Pilbrow's remarkable history and exploration of the National Theatre - building and company - with which he has been involved since it's inception in 1963. This book has been eight years - or, really, a lifetime - in the making, and is nearly ready for you all to enjoy. Today we are delighted to have our Kickstarter up and running to let you support the book by just buying a copy in advance. Or for just a little more, you can be part of the book, with your name permanently inside on our supporter's page. Or for a bit more, you get your name and a short message inside, alongside the wonderful industry sponsors who are already supporting us. Please do have a look. If you have questions, shout them out. https://lnkd.in/ebQ52DD4 This is quite a story, told by quite a remarkable individual - perhaps the last one standing to have been part of the planning of this amazing building. (If you need any more encouragement, there's a special rate if you get in in the next seven days...)

What Hans Weichhart, AEA, AGVA said: To me, theatre isn't just a building. Theatre isn't just a play or a musical. Theatre is storytelling and whether you tell that story through words, dance, music, or art, it doesn't matter. The impact that theatre has to provoke thought, invoke emotions, and inspire change is what makes me so proud to celebrate #TIOS and to thank all of the dedicated #theatreeducators out there! Storytelling--also essential in writing for grants, annual reports, promotional information, etc. etc. etc. Wonder just how many people in grants, marketing, PR, etc. also have #theatreeducators to thank? Now's the time!
March is #TheatreInOurSchools month! Join us and thousands of students and theatre educators to raise awareness of the benefits of theatre education and celebrate the impact that theatre has on students' and educators' lives. Remember to tag us in your posts and use the hashtag #TheatreInOurSchools so we can share! To apply for the Outstanding Impact Award, use the score sheet and document your troupe's efforts, then submit your application! Top-scoring troupes will receive a prize package from the official sponsor of Theatre in Our Schools, Disney Theatrical Productions, in partnership with Music Theatre International and EdTA. ICYMI: Drumroll please, for the results of the 2023 Youth Theatre in Scotland Sector Review, the national survey that helps us identify how we’re all developing as an overall youth theatre sector, and how we can develop further. Findings from the research provide a snapshot of youth theatre provision in Scotland in 2023 and how it compares it to the sector in 2015 and 2020. The findings help YTAS to capture the big picture, and sharpen the focus of our work. Read the full report and our findings over at https://buff.ly/4atAU5a
