It is hard to believe that the official start of #summer is just around the corner now! And so is the ESACT - European Society for Animal Cell Technology Congress from 23 to 26 June in #Edinburgh. We are looking forward to joining the event, participating in two #genetherapy discussions on Sunday, June 23rd, and presenting a #poster on Optimizing rAAV vectors! Back with more specifics on our presentations through the week. Hope to see you there!

It is widely accepted that animal testing is neither desirable nor a reliable predictive tool for assessing human safety following exposure to chemicals. Nevertheless it became the default method simply because there were no viable alternatives, but over the last decade some amazing scientific advances are now challenging the perception that animal testing is the ‘gold standard’ or even necessary. Changing how we assess something as important as the human safety of chemicals will take time but the belief and commitment in what has been described as New Approach Methodologies makes this transition inevitable. No one methodology or single assay can remove the need for animal testing and a combination of assays remains necessary. Then the challenge shifts to understanding which individual assays provide useful information and how the data they provide can be integrated with our knowledge of toxicity to allow a safe, transparent and defensible decision to be made. Kaptis is the first in silico tool to provide this decision-support and we are grateful for the knowledge and data shared by experts across industry and regulatory bodies that has allowed us to reach this point. Our first endpoint is now ready supporting the assessment of carcinogenicity under the ICH S1 regulatory guidelines. Join us on our journey to remove the need for animal testing whilst improving human safety! Lhasa Limited
Can we reduce unnecessary animal testing when assessing carcinogenicity? I'm happy to say that the answer is yes! Not only that, but we can actually make our assessments much more scientific and human-relevant than they would be if we simply relied on an animal study. Watch this video to find out how:

Who Poo’d it? A Method for Animal Genotyping from Faecal Samples Animal genotyping based on faecal samples can be a non-invasive tool for tracking the population numbers and movement of endangered animals. The Maxwell® RSC Instrument allows for an efficient, automated method for DNA purification from canine buccal and faecal swabs. The purified DNA can be used for downstream STR analysis on the Spectrum Compact CE system to achieve profiles for accurate identification.
