🌟 Emory Day of Giving is Here! 🌟 Today marks the start of our annual Emory Day of Giving, a tradition that holds a special place in my heart. While it's a day associated with reaching donor and financial milestones, its true essence lies far beyond those numbers. It's a celebration of collective impact - a testament to the contributions of our incredible staff, alumni, volunteers, students, parents, and community members. Emory Day of Giving shines a spotlight on the power of unity and generosity. We support life-changing programs like Emory Remote Area Medical, which provides free medical clinics across the state, and the Emory University Emergency Hardship Fund, which offers a financial lifeline to our staff and faculty in times of need. We come together to support programs like the Emory Veterans Program, which supports highly effective treatments for PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and other invisible wounds for post-9/11 veterans and service members at no cost to them. We help elevate our student experience through the support of countless student groups that enrich the academic journey and leave a lasting imprint on the communities many of those groups serve, both locally and globally. As Joshua R. Newton reminded us during our recent town hall, while it's essential to acknowledge our achievements, the true measure of success lies in the stories we create and the impact we have. That's the heart of why we gather and give. Emory Day of Giving is more than just a day on the calendar. It's a reflection of our commitment to Emory's mission to create, preserve, teach, and apply knowledge in the service of humanity. It's about what we can accomplish together. Let's come together to make this Emory Day of Giving the most impactful yet. Every gift, no matter the size, contributes to a larger story of hope, support, and transformation. Welcome to First Sight LLC, where we're dedicated to transforming global vision care. My wife, Dr. Marsha Davidson and I are the founders and driving force behind this initiative. Our journey began as we traversed internationally, witnessing the acute need for affordable and accessible corrective eye care solutions. This realization led to the inception of First Sight, LLC; a 501(c)3, philanthropic organization committed to revolutionizing vision care. Our mission is simple, yet impactful: to provide affordable and accessible prescription eyeglasses in under ten minutes. It has been clinically tested and verified by the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Its affordable, with prices ranging from US$3.95 to $6.95. We've already distributed tens of thousands of high-quality eyeglasses in 31 countries, touching lives and improving vision for so many. But yet, a lot of more work needs to be accomplished. First Sight eyeglasses are always provided at no charge to the recipients in the under-served communities. What sets First Sight apart is our commitment to simplicity and efficiency. Our eyeglasses are designed to be low-tech, fool-proof and high impact, requiring no electricity or specialized equipment. With our system, even non-professionals can perform visual screenings and fit customized prescription eyeglasses quickly and easily. First Sight eyeglasses process is totally mobile, making them ideal for remote and underserved communities. They can be distributed anywhere, providing immediate relief to those in need. Each prescription pair can be prepared in under 10 minutes, and they're incredibly affordable, making vision correction more accessible than ever. Again, our process needs no qualified personnel - anyone can screen and fit our prescription eyeglasses. First Sight programs align exceptionally well with NGOs and faith-based organizations, whose missions include helping adults and children with the gift of good eyesight. Please visit our website at www.firstsight.org and https://lnkd.in/gPfhM33d and contact me (+1-402-312-0012)for creating collaborative partnerships to provide the gift of sight to the neediest children and adults in under-served communities.

Today is #ClinicalTrialsDay. In a world where more and more information are, presumably, obtained through all sorts of tech solutions, #machinelearning, #bigdata #AI, there is still a need for "old fashion" trials. I have seen several times before where data driven analysis do actually produce interesting hypotheses, but how can we trust them? Clinical trials quantifies the #scientific procedure that is needed to find out IF there actaually is a real effect or just a coincidence. Good clinical trials also requires good data handling, data manipulation, analysis plans, procedures for analysis and reporting. #statistics #science
Today we are celebrating #clinicaltrialsday. https://lnkd.in/eDYjHMK

📢 Exciting news for eye health research! A new paper in the journal Eye highlights key research priorities for eye health in the UK, based on a survey of 2,240 healthcare professionals, patients, carers, researchers, and charity support workers. The paper, which includes Ailish Murray, director of grants and research at Moorfields Eye Charity as part of the co-author list, highlights target study areas such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, childhood vision loss, and short-sightedness. Led by Prof. Rupert Bourne from Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Anglia Ruskin University, this work by the UK Clinical Eye Research Strategy (CERS) group updates the 2013 priorities set by the James Lind Alliance Sight and Vision Loss Priority Setting Partnership. The work emphasises the prevention of cataracts and glaucoma, better integration of primary and secondary eye care, advancements in microbial keratitis treatment, early detection of childhood eye diseases, and new strategies for dry AMD and inflammatory diseases like uveitis. The UK Clinical Eye Research Strategy is funded by Fight for Sight, Macular Society, Moorfields Eye Charity and supported by the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research).
