ASEAN Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ACESP)’s Post

On April 15, 2024, in Brussels, Khun Treesuvit (David) Arriyavat, the Manager of the ASEAN Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ACESP) at the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD) in Thailand, participated in the workshop titled "The European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform: A Success Story" as part of the World Circular Economy Forum 2024 (WCEF). This workshop served as a precursor to the official commencement of WCEF, offering attendees a preview of Europe's approach to the circular economy transition. During this event, the ACESP Manager and Prof. Dr Lerwen Liu, a member of the ACESP Engagement Group, and representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat Environment Division Vong Sok Natalia Derodofa had the opportunity to engage with the Secretariat/EESC Representative/ and coordination group members of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP) and gain insights into its objectives, organisational framework, and achievements, as presented by representatives from EU institutions and the 24 ECESP Coordination Group members. Through this interaction, the ACESP Manager understood ECESP's role in facilitating the transition to a circular economy, overcoming challenges, and disseminating valuable best practices to policymakers, businesses, academia, and civil society. Additionally, the ACESP Manager learned how ECESP fosters collaboration by translating dialogue into actionable cooperation. The success story workshop of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform has inspired other regional platforms, encouraging them to adopt a similar network-based approach while acknowledging both challenges and successful strategies. This exchange of knowledge and experiences highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing the circular economy agenda globally.
