Some thoughts after a conversation with a potential Solar Construction client yesterday 💭👀 Me: “How long has the Project Manager role been open?” Hiring manager: “2 months” Me: “When was the anticipated start date?” Hiring manager: “Middle of December. We have a lot of upcoming solar installations.” Me: “Why hasn’t the role been filled?” Hiring manager: “I am the one trying to find the candidates and I don’t have time.” Many of my clients are hiring managers attempting to fill their own roles because they do not have an internal recruiting team or their recruiting team doesn’t have much capacity. You've been in your job for over two years? That's unusual. I speak with a people in the energy sector all day everyday, I talk about where the industry is going and what it's like to be hands on during the development and delivery of projects. We've been collating market insights over the last year to help understand some of the challenges and help predict upcoming trends regarding the talent short market. I thought the below graph regarding median tenure was particularly interesting - here's why. Power System Engineers - No Surprises here. We've been fixing grid connection issues and adding more projects into the grid while attempting to stabilize it. There's more options and work than ever before. Commercial Managers - Increased demand for inhouse specialist talent, more contracts, more agreements and more choice of roles for this skillset. Legal Counsel - Lower than I would have thought. I would speculate that this would be similar to the commercial manager - there is more choice, and an increased demand for inhouse counsel. Do you agree?
