It was great to see the outpouring of love and celebration in my feed for #internationalwomensday2024. But let's not lose sight of some facts: 👉 Globally, 2.8 BILLION women face legally-enforced restrictions in their choice of work. 👉 There's about a 30% gap between women's and men's participation in the labor market. 👉 Far more women occupy vulnerable, informal, low-wage, or part-time work than men. 👉 Globally, on average, women are paid 20% less for the same work, even in developed countries. The discrepancy increases for women of color and for mothers. And yet, in the US at least, the Equal Pay Act is still not the law. 👉 Women still perform the majority of non-paid care work, globally. By 2050, this is still expected to be an average of 2.5 hours per day more than men. 👉 Climate change will make everything worse for women, who are impacted disproportionately. And more bad news: 👇 we're not retaining or taking care of female executives, which means we're not making any real gains in female leadership at the top. We should all feel proud of our progress, but let's not lose sight that we have a long way to go! https://lnkd.in/gfWWmUXK #iwd #womensempowerment

Great article! Strides have been made when it comes to Women in the Workplace; however, there still is a need to push to the next level! “Until companies address this inequity head-on, women of color will remain severly underrepresented in leadership positions and mostly absent from C-suite.” #womanintheworkplace #businesswomen #dei #deileaders #business #leadershipgoals

The 2023 Women in the Workplace report from McKinsey is out with important insights: women are more ambitious than ever, fuelled by workplace flexibility. Yet despite some hard-fought gains, women’s representation is not keeping pace. There is a chapter dedicated to microaggressions that women experience at a significantly higher rate than men: they are twice as likely to be mistaken for someone junior and hear comments on their emotional state. "Women who experience microaggressions—and self-shield to deflect them—are three times more likely to think about quitting their jobs and four times more likely to almost always be burned out. By leaving microaggressions unchecked, companies miss out on everything women have to offer and risk losing talented employees." There is undeniable progress out there, but there is an enormous amount of work - and opportunities - for organizations that are truly committed to diversity, equality and inclusion.
