What an experience! Brisbane for the WSI World Class Wellbeing in Sport conference ~ creating environments for performance and wellbeing at the incredible Callie Hotel. Thank you to Wellbeing Science Institute, Steve Johnson and Alison Johnson for putting on such a strong event within this space. To be in a room full of like minded people who all want elite levels of wellbeing supports for sporting organisations and it's people was literally a dream come true. Sharing knowledge and insights, raising questions and challenging the "norms" in elite sports was extremely thought provoking and inspiring. Some incredible panelists from a range of sports and from across the globe sharing game changing information for the elite sport context. Not to mention meeting some of my online cohort friends face to face and being able to share in the experience and catch up on our experiences in the space. Ross Ashcroft Fraser Harrison Dale Quartey Toby Nolan. My 5 Key take aways... 1. Know/Focus on the person before the athlete 2. Connection and trust is critical 3. It takes a village but it can start with us 4. Taking athletes and elite staff to a level where they are autonomous in their wellbeing and wellbeing decisions is the ultimate goal 5. You can't have long term performance without wellbeing ... and many more 👏🏼

When we start to celebrate well-being as a cutting-edge trend in elite sport today, it's interesting to appreciate the context of this evolution within a broader timeline of well-being in sports. Going back to the late 20th century, holistic approaches began to take root, recognizing the interconnectedness of physical and mental well-being. From that point forward, a trajectory was set in motion towards the contemporary trends we witness today: - Psychological and mental aspects (Mid-20th Century) - Integration of holistic approaches across the sport science sport medicine disciplines (Late 20th Century - Early 21st Century) - Incorporation of technological advances and data analytics (21st Century) - Cultural shift and awareness towards mental health (in recent years) - Inclusion of mindfulness and well-being programs (current trends) These early seeds have grown into a nuanced comprehension of athlete well-being, beyond mere performance optimization to encompass the entirety of an athlete's experience. Loughborough Sport and the Wellbeing Science Institute are leading the way having recently hosted the World-Class Athlete Well-being conference. They are demonstrating a commitment to refining our understanding of what it means to thrive in elite sports. #wellbeing #elitesport

Managing Director at Sporting Ethos, Ex-J&J, IIM Ahmedabad (2009-11), The Doon School (2003), NSIT (2008)
Corporate Wellness 2.0 is not a marketing term. In the words of our corporate clients, it’s an eye-opener. Most of us who have been working for more than a decade, and now managing family, trying to procure assets or further our careers, have put our health on the backseat (or in the boot)! The earlier we wake up, better is the chance we have to undo the damages done and prevent from getting shocked at a later stage. I am glad we started this division at Sporting Ethos as it has enabled me to introspect and focus inwards. Will be sharing more insights from personal and professional perspective/learning in the days to come. #reclaimyourhealth #corporatewellness2 #sportingethos

I thought this might happen but didn't anticipate such a personal impact. When we started our first Wellteam.me programs, we were excited by the impact our participants experienced. It reinforced that what we were doing was valuable, and then... What we did't however anticipate was how quickly the offline experience became such an integral part of Wellteam. The weekly walks we co-ordinate for members are just a side-effect of our online mind and body programs. I still remember the first week we got 10 members from Wellteam Adelaide out walking on a Saturday morning. What we quickly realised was how a healthy connection with others was missing for many. It's not that any of our members would say they're lonely... they're not. It's just that the connections they had were based on other activities, following a sporting club, work, family or kids school activities. While gathering is critical, it's when we gather for the purpose of health and wellbeing and sharing healthy activities... that's when connection goes next level. We often hear how men catch up with others regularly but never engage in conversations around getting fitter or healthier. Traditional gatherings involve alcohol, discussions about a sporting team, work conversations or negative conversations about one issue or another. Flip the narrative this year. Get your group into Wellteam and turn those conversations into a more positive, healthy orientation. If that's not possible then go it solo... join us on 8th January for the Launch Program. It starts Monday and it could just flip the switch you need to get back that drive, motivation and energy. Big thanks to Rohan Bennett for sharing some of his experience with Wellteam. You are a true legend Rohan and we're so glad you're part of Wellteam Adelaide. Massive shout out also to Andrew H. Navy from FlowVisuals for capturing some of Rohan's story. #community #connection #wellbeing #wellness #wellteamglobalchallenge

Well the last few days has certainly provided some 'energy' (economics, stats and science too) around Health and Active Wellbeing to individuals, communities and society as a whole. Pleasing to see a National NHS conversation launched: today Sport England release some insightful work on the value of sport and physical activity too: generating over £1billion in social value per year. The endorsement by Chris Whitty (CMO) that 'greatest health gains are from helping people who do little activity to do a bit more', is further recognition that Proportionate Universalism remains important building block for our work: trying to shape support in local communities, and place. I'm pleased this resonates with the work of The Chief Cultural & Leisure Officers Association has supported to convene, alongside Local Government Association, District Councils' NetworkActive PartnershipsCommunity Leisure UKAPSE SolutionsSport England karen creavin and many wider partners, who have been willing to step outside of their comfort zones, embrace the debate and extend our thinking and collaboration to truly embrace a wider systems approach; whether from the public, charitable, voluntary or private sector; daring to dream that 'everyone', 'everywhere' can access the benefits that Active Wellbeing provides - has been a great space to step into and discuss. The emerging Place-based, Active Wellbeing Leadership Network (or even Caucus) as Dr Justin Varney-Bennett suggested, will re-meet on 6th November to reflect on the landscape changes and opportunities: and hopefully begin to establish where together ,we can make the greatest gains. The intention is to continue to be patient and inclusive right across the system, but to start to focus on areas we can be the most impactful, for health yes, but let's not forget the impact more widely on inclusion and connectivity and more, but without trying to fall in the trap of being everything Lets make proper progress. and do so together. Further, as ever, we will also continuing to think how we can help share and support all those place based leaders trying to make it work in communities across the country -often on limited resources, as ultimately, that's where the action happens. If you have been busy, and missed the work - now's the time to tune in! Attached is a personal resume and refection of our journey: CLOA are just convenors here...the strength is in the vast network of leaders we've gathered to work together: Please do get in touch if you want to help and know more...
