Photographs have surfaced showing comedian Katt Williams at the same event with a few of the comedians he has dragged over the last few months. At the Netflix Is a Joke Festival Weekend’s brunch, where Black comics like Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, Tiffany Haddish, and more gathered around and in celebration of veteran comedian Sindbad as he recovers from a debilitating stroke, the atmosphere seemed charged with camaraderie between those in attendance. For my brand and retailer community in the LA area, this is a cool event in Venice and a nice way to get to know the platform and team at TryNow. If you’re not familiar with TryNow.com it’s the preeminent try-before-you-buy platform for Shopify merchants. It’s honestly such an impressive solution that I believe is poised to significantly support the development of independent brands and retailers. By easing the purchasing process for customers, these customers can begin to build trust and rapport with brands and retailers that are new and novel to them, as well as explore higher pricepoints from conscious brands. It just minimizes friction all around, of course making the buying experience better for the customer, but also driving revenue for the brands and retailers using the platform and significantly speeding up the return process (check out founder Benjamin Davis posts for helpful stats). I mean, why didn’t I come up with this? Our industry is faced with challenging times (unprecedented ones, really) and that is for certain. But I’m really enthusiastic about the solutions and innovations we’re seeing that will support the industry’s evolution and, most importantly, the advancement of emerging designers and independent brands and retailers.

Some television, movies, and music perpetuate the myth of stalking behaviors as flattering, cute, or romantic. This normalization helps mask stalkers’ criminal behavior. In real life, there is nothing desirable about stalking. Can you think of examples of media that spread this myth? Today, consider the media you see or hear and increase your awareness of how media often incorrectly portrays this crime. #KnowItNameItStopIt #NSAM2024

I was asked to write about Trevor Noah for Volume 2, Issue 1 of Moya Magazine. Very grateful to have been commissioned by Sean Jacobs to contribute to this edition. Big thank you to TO Molefe and other members of the Moya team for their thoughtful edits. Looking to learn more about Hip-Hop (especially since that Kendrick drop)? "Gangsta Island" is fully animated dark quirky comedy (AND a Signal Award winner) that brings back the nostalgia that we all loved prior to the social media era: kids playing outside, boomboxes, the Golden Era of Hip-Hop, handwritten letters to love interests, and the grade school bully. As a passionate actor and film student, I am a dedicated content creator seeking exciting opportunities in crew work. I am ready to bring creativity, dedication, and enthusiasm to the set. Let's create magic together!
I love Jerry Seinfeld. Again, he has shown us the power of wit and wisdom when faced with ignorance. During his Melbourne show last night, an anti-Israel idiot tried to disrupt the performance. But Seinfeld, ever the master of comedy, turned the situation on its head once more! Seinfeld’s brilliant response highlights just how absurd these tactics are. If your grand strategy involves shouting at comedians, you might want to rethink your approach. And the truth is I am sure most rational and fair minded people have had enough of the empty slogans and pointless disruptions. If you want to make a real difference, put down the placard and pick up a book. Understand the history, the people, and the real issues at play. Protest by making informed arguments, not by heckling entertainers. Let’s elevate the conversation, rise above ignorance, and strive for real solutions. Because at the end of the day, it's not the loudest voice that changes the world, but the wisest.
