Don’t drift – make conscious decisions about your future direction. When times are good it’s all too easy to let the market momentum carry you along without consciously thinking ahead. Equally when times are hard the need to triage tends to trump thoughtful decision making. Even if you can make the time to step away, reflect, and focus your attention on your strategy and tactics, how do you move that strategy into action whilst still leading the business on a daily basis? We have unique assets aimed at helping leaders get better, particularly in helping them to inspire the kind of “followship” that achieves outstanding success. Our Leadership Framework has been used by many organisations all over the world by leaders who want to be the very best they can. It’s simple structure and focus on the fundamentals make it the perfect context for improving leadership at all levels of your organisation. Often our work in this area also includes Board Effectiveness, focusing on helping your leadership team work together optimally, whether in terms of the way in which you make decisions, or ensuring there is always time for the right level of debate, challenge, and follow up. Our other unique asset is our close involvement with the movie The Testing Point which we use to help leaders understand how difficult it is for the people we lead to call things out when they think something’s wrong and to help us create an environment where that kind of vital challenge can be made safely. Leadership isn't just about steering through change; it's about setting the course for it. Distinguishing between management and leadership is crucial—while the former deals with complexity, the latter navigates change. Yet, many companies are over-managed and under-led. Aspiring leaders, recognize that the higher the level of change, the greater the demand for true leadership. POTENTIAL FAILURE MODES: - Failure to allocate sufficient time and mental resources to understand the external landscape and its impact on your business. Without this insight, you risk missing new opportunities or threats that could be detrimental. - Over-reliance on corporate management mechanisms—such as planning, budgeting, and corporate calendars—while neglecting essential leadership behaviors. Remember, effective leadership extends beyond administrative processes. It requires vision, adaptability, and foresight. I have been talking a lot about failure modes, because they have proven to be a common training topic amongst my clients. Inside of one of my three main service packages (Training, Consulting and Coaching) we will address these potential failure modes and other leadership growth opportunities that will help take your company to new heights. ✨ Transformational Leadership Coach ✨ Executive Coaching ✨ Leadership Development ✨ Founder at The LeaderSmith ✨
A growth plan is waaaay more than a path to promotion. 🤓 🤓 🤓 Organizations spend a lot of time creating paths to promotion. Often in response to feedback surveys indicating that employees want more growth and development opportunities. Except, a promotion and growth and development are not necessarily the same thing. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that when promotions to leadership happen without any significant investment in the individual it is doing them a disservice (along with the people they are leading). 😣 Each time a leader is promoted, there should be specific investment in their growth and development as a leader. Because with each new level of leadership comes greater responsibility and often bigger more complex challenges. Enabling and empowering leaders to face these challenges and take on these new levels of responsibility leads to more rapid growth and a greater impact. 🤔 How are you investing in your leaders? 🤔 When was a time that you felt fully support and invested in when you took on a new leadership role? P.S. This is what I do!!!! I support leaders to grow and develop their capacity to lead through ever-increasing complexity and challenges. I love it. And I’d love to help you and your organization as well. Don’t be shy. Let’s talk about how I can help. #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #coaching #executivecoaching

Leadership 4.0. It's a dynamic, cross-hierarchical, team-oriented, and innovative approach to leadership. In this article, I go into detail about the real meaning of a 4.0 leader. I talk about my experience across the Americas in having advised clients, contributed to diverse companies, led senior executive searches, and how I have always promoted the application of new leadership methodologies. Success has been tremendous, with tangible results in shaping organizational cultures and fostering innovation. My goal has always been to set companies and individuals on a path to success. However, it's crucial to acknowledge that while Leadership 4.0 offers immense potential, not everyone may be ready for this transformative journey. Implementing this fast-paced, cooperative approach requires a readiness for change, adaptability, and a commitment to innovation. For those prepared to embrace it, the rewards are substantial. As we navigate the landscape of new styles of leadership, let's continue the conversation on how Leadership 4.0 can be a groundbreaker, recognizing that success lies in both readiness and commitment to evolution. Reflecting on my recent leadership session with senior executives, one truth became clear... leading in today's fast-paced, disruptive environment requires a deep understanding of oneself. It required to get back to your roots and understand what shaped you as a leader. It's about adopting a scientist's approach, observing, hypothesising, and analysing actions. Be in the moment, feel and understand rather than judge why you do what you do. Self-awareness is the first step to mastery, and a Kaizen approach—setting small, realistic goals—helps change behavioural patterns. While easier said than done, spending time on 'Being' rather than solely focusing on 'Doing'— comfort zone—increases awareness of your environment and the impact that you make. In a world where business performance is tightly linked to leadership effectiveness, investing in nurturing authentic leaders is non-negotiable. Prioritising self-awareness and adapting to change are essential for sustained outcomes. #leadership #selfawareness #businesssuccess

Ever noticed how some leadership teams seem to act with a single mind? It's more than just coincidence - it's a strategic alignment of values. This is especially true in small- to medium-sized businesses, where leaders' influence is most potent. Take a moment to consider this: Does your leadership team reflect shared principles and goals? If yes, congrats. You've established a strong value-based culture. If there's even a shadow of doubt, it's time to pause and reassess. Start by ensuring you have clarity about your own value system. Once that's in place, the next crucial step is to articulate these values - not just vaguely sketched ideals but well-defined principles everyone in your organization can understand and pursue. Alignment isn't a good to have - it's a must! It's a critical factor that can make or break the company's vision and mission. This is like fine-tuning an engine for peak performance. When done right, the whole system runs smoothly. At Beyond Your Shadow, we're passionate about helping leaders with leadership development within their teams. Especially when it comes to overcoming alignment challenges to ensure your organization functions as a cohesive unit. When leaders are united, the entire organization moves forward. #BeyondYourShadow #Leadership #Leader #CoreValues #Alignment

HOW TO LEAD THROUGH THE CHANGE? Management or leadership? Both of them are needed for organizational change, although they have different roles to play. Leadership produces change, transformation and disruption, while management produces order and consistency. Leadership is about creating a vision for change, while management is about translating the vision into agendas and actions. Viewing leadership as a process stresses that it is a two-way, interactive event between leaders and individuals rather than a linear, one-way event in which the leader affects individuals only. It means that leaders affect and are affected by their employees either positively or negatively. More importantly, it means that leadership is not restricted to just one person in a team, department or organization who has positional power, usually the formally appointed leader. Instead it makes it available to people throughout the organization. Commitment is an important enabler of change. Irrespective of how brilliant a vision may be, if employees do not buy into it then very little will change. One way to build commitment is to create an environment in which the people most affected by change have a role in shaping it. #changemanagement #leadership #changecommunication #internalcomms #change

What do we need to do to change and support better leadership capability in organizations? Consider sitting down regularly with some of your colleagues and reflect on what is working and what problems the organization needs to resolve. And agree with no exceptions on a course of action that will try to ameliorate those problems. Admit if this doesn't work or when it makes a massive difference. For most leaders, the more senior you are, the more isolated you become. So when, for example, you become director of marketing, there is a tendency to focus on marketing rather than on the entire business gamut. However, as a leadership team, every aspect of the organization is important, and you have to make decisions for the whole organization. The logic applies to all of the executive heads. They will be more effective working together. Leadership is holistic. A good leader talks to colleagues regularly in order to resolve the common challenges the organization faces. And every functional director has challenges in common with her colleagues. It is always beneficial to work on those challenges together; and if you can do that you stand the best chance of resolving them and, therefore, moving the entire organization forward. In this current, unsettled and uncertain climate that's a really big deal. On Thursday, Matthew Richter and I will start our leadership capability series. We will provide you with tools that you can use immediately and facilitate peer discussions on their impact. Find our more about the Building Leadership Capability Series here https://lnkd.in/e9a2H7cN I hope you can join us for some or all of the sessions. #leadership #leadershipdevelopment

The power of common sense and common practice in Leadership How many times have we heard: “it is normal, everyone should know and do this” ? Unfortunately, common sense is not common practice. In the realm of leadership, common sense isn't just a platitude—it's a transformative force when integrated into common practice. Leaders who navigate complexities with practical wisdom, seamlessly merging common sense into daily operations, wield an unparalleled influence for positive change. The connection between common sense and common practice in leadership is the keystone for effective and impactful decision-making. Common sense, often considered the practical wisdom derived from our experience and intuition, serves as the guiding force in discerning the most sensible and pragmatic paths forward. When leaders seamlessly integrate common sense into our daily practices, aligning the actions with the straightforward and sensible, we create a culture where practical wisdom becomes the norm. This fusion of common sense into common practice transcends theoretical strategies, fostering a leadership style that resonates with authenticity and effectiveness. It's this harmonious connection that transforms leadership from mere theory into a lived reality, paving the way for sustained positive change and organizational success. #LeadershipInsights #PositiveChange #CommonSenseLeadership #executivecoaching #leadershipdevelopmentcoaching #catalinaflore (Video credit Charlotte Ann Tucker)
