When Barack Obama first ran for president, there was a small faction of black voters who did not support him because he was not "of the soil", meaning he had no lineage connecting him to the legacy of slavery endured by the ancestors of black Americans. Today, that faction appears to have grown in part due to what is perceived as a failure by Mr. Obama to address a number of socio-economic issues of particular interest to blacks. The pushback seems to have intensified as Kamala Harris, another person not of the soil attempts to be the 47th president. The Democratic Party does not appear concerned about the growing rift. Given significant black populations in certain urban areas and in southern states, the black vote is considered crucial to the Democratic Party. However, support for the party has been falling among blacks. Will 2024 see a significant departure of black votes. Can Harris get them back? #kamalaharris #election2024

Thoughts from the President of a company that has been around for 120+ years / 5 generations. Business owners see below!
Well, Niehaus has been around for 122 years. Miss Niehaus started us for the Worlds Fair in 1902 and my team is the 5th generation of the firm. Why have we succeeded? I can only tell you about what I have discovered from those generations. Be patient, don’t be the first to try something be the second, watch, learn and listen. Slow down and think about what you are proposing. That you are playing with real money, real customer’s and a bunch of family’s that are counting on you to succeed. You can’t be the top company, firm or business owner by not studying the market in which you live. The job you want is not the job you get, put trust in God and the rest will follow. Be strong to your city and don’t by greedy. #Niehuas #Youknowthename #1902

It's #BlackHistoryMonth and this year's theme is #reclaimingthenarrative In the lead up to this month, I've been reflecting on the role I can play in helping to #reclaimthenarrative through active and intentional allyship 🤝 For me, this means listening, learning, and leveraging my voice to uplift Black voices that have historically been marginalized or misrepresented🗣 . It’s about recognizing that Black history is not separate from broader history, but an integral part of it📚 But reclaiming narratives isn't just about amplifying the voices of the past; it’s about creating a future where Black perspectives are central to how we shape society, policies, and culture 🌍 . Allies can help by advocating for equitable representation, calling out bias when they see it, and using their platforms to elevate the contributions of Black individuals—both past and present 📢 This powerful performance by Dave really encapsulated the importance of this year's theme for me, demonstrating the crucial role that music and the arts can play in #reclamingnarratives 🎶 : https://lnkd.in/e2Tyk27c #AllyshipInAction #ReclaimingNarratives #BlackHistoryMonth2024 #AmplifyBlackVoices

Design Assistant at Black and Beech Third edition Modern Artisan for YOOX NET-A-PORTER and The Kings Foundation
Here’s some insight into my journey with The Modern Artisan with YOOX NET-A-PORTER and The Kings Foundation and my approach to design.
“It’s not just a product, it’s part of our lives.” The #ModernArtisan Georgia Wintle, who’s joined us for the third edition of our flagship talent programme with The King's Foundation, believes in the power of storytelling through what we wear. Georgia is passionate about getting people to connect with their clothes by finding ways to add sentimental value to her designs, which she’ll handcraft alongside five other artisans at Dumfries House in Scotland, headquarters of The King’s Foundation. I truly believe it's about time to stop protesting what doesn't exist: Read or watch 'A RAISIN IN THE SUN', and you will see that all the protest and outrage could possibly be returned to the source: Ourselves, the reality of our freedom, the choices we make, and the way we behave among others as well as among ourselves. We truly need to get a grip and live as well as we desire. In this day and age, the only ones holding us back appears to be us. I was the first among my family (parents and siblings) to retire at a 20 year career, to achieve an Associates in Business Administration, a Bachelors in Applied Science, and consider it as normative regardless of coming from a broken home and having subsisted on welfare during my childhood. And that after being told "I can't go to college! My grades don't reflect!" by my high school guidance counselor. With my mother's faith in me that I refused to be used or abused by employers or people perception of me, I applied myself to whatever God graced me to become. No matter what it appeared that others could or might do to me was and is irrelevant because the determining factor is ME, MYSELF, AND I, given that I remain faithful and consistent. I've now seen family members in businesses, degreed professions, public service, and I in elected office. Never once did any of us have to protest in order to achieve these positions in life. You are free to explore my profile. Never forget that life in America is designed to navigate through faith, knowledge, understanding, wisdom, respect, and cooperation in our free society of which the law (the U.S. Constitution) is thus far accommodating. Remain vigilant! Understand that if we continue to resist the nonexistent, we as a nation will collectively destroy the freedom we've sought after and finally achieved. Finally, some questions for Ms. Jackson and the panel: 1. How and why did you not address the anger and violence we perpetrate upon our fellow citizens and communities? 2. How's you concept of successful revolution working in Haiti for the Haitian people?
Professor Kellie Carter Jackson joined "CBS Mornings" to talk about her new book "We Refuse: A Forceful History of Black Resistance," and to talk about the lessons learned in history can apply to protest movements today. Watch now: https://lnkd.in/eUUt5sTx

Two hundred fifty years of slavery. Ninety years of Jim Crow. Sixty years of separate but unequal. Thirty-five years of racist housing policy. Clear and convincing evidence for reparations. Until we reckon with our compounding moral debts, America will never be whole. It belongs to human nature to hate those you have injured. You can’t be trusted to be honest about our history, you also can’t be trusted to make decisions about our future. There can be no justice, unless there were also injustice; no courage, unless there were cowardice; no truth, unless there were falsehood. I am against those who are against the truth. We cannot have equity until we address inequity. It is reparative justice, not charity that is wanting in the world…
