When health care providers should use NRP vs PALS for older newborn/infant patients is a longstanding debate. A recent article authored by a writing group comprised of American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association members tried to provide a review of the differences between NRP and PALS and things to consider when choosing what is right for your practice and patients. The short answer: we need more evidence to guide us. "Between 0.25% and 3% of admissions to the NICU, PICU, and PCICU receive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Most CPR events occur in patients <1 year old. The incidence of CPR is 10 times higher in the NICU than at birth. Therefore, optimizing the approach to CPR in hospitalized neonates and infants is important." The paper: https://lnkd.in/g62FqTyw Article in AAP News: https://lnkd.in/gcMyb-bn

Professor of Pediatrics, University of California Davis School of Medicine | Chair, American Academy of Pediatrics Council for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety
Just published our paper, "Implementing Strategies to Prevent Home Medication Administration Errors in Children With Medical Complexity" in the Aug 2023 issue of Clinical Pediatrics with my American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Quality Improvement and Patient Safety collaborators, Drs. Julia Kim and Shonna Yin. We discuss the implementation of four key interventions to prevent home medication errors in children: establishing practice-based error reporting systems, standardizing medication reconciliation especially during inpatient to outpatient care transitions, employing health literacy-informed communication techniques, and using health literacy-informed patient education materials.
