Keep reading to learn more about Dr. Carter and be sure to say hi if you see him around the office! 👋 🩺Why did you choose to work in pediatrics? Watching my dad work as a pediatrician gave me a firsthand view of how rewarding it is to help children and families. I’ve always loved math and science, but it was the unique connection my dad had with his patients that drew me into pediatrics. Now that I am a pediatrician, my goal is to build strong relationships with families and empower kids to reach their full potential. 💭What advice would you give to new patients? 👉For kids: I know doctor visits can seem scary, but I’m here to help you grow big and strong. Bring your favorite toy or book to make the visit more fun! 👉For teens: Be open and honest about anything you're going through. We’re in this together to keep you healthy as you transition to adulthood. 👉For parents: Parenting is full of challenges, and I’m here as a resource. Don’t hesitate to ask questions—I’m happy to help however I can. 🫶Tell us about your family: Family is a huge part of who I am. I’m the oldest of three siblings, my dad is still a pediatrician in Georgia, and my mom is a preschool teacher. ⛳⛹️🏈What are some of your hobbies? When I’m not in the clinic, you’ll likely find me golfing, playing basketball, water skiing, or cheering on UGA football! This or That: Read the book or watch the movie? 📖 I love the depth of a story that a book can provide. Ice cream or cake?🍦Especially on a hot summer day. Coffee or tea? ☕ I appreciate the morning routine that comes with making a pot of coffee. Beach or mountains? 🚤 Third choice: the lake! I love boating, slalom skiing and relaxing on the dock. A win for our cystic fibrosis patients and teammates 💜 Recently, our dedicated cystic fibrosis team at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital was recognized at the annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference in Boston! During the conference, this team received two incredible awards: the Quality Improvement Award and the Outstanding Partnership Award. 🏆 These recognitions are a testament to the incredible dedication of this care team. We are proud to be making a difference in the lives of children and families battling cystic fibrosis every day! 🌟

"Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” - Mr. Rogers When 11-year-old Jamie’s home collapsed in a mudslide during Hurricane Helene, he was trapped beneath the rubble. Jamie’s loyal dog, Tucker, located him and barked to alert rescuers of where Jamie was, allowing them to pull him from the wreckage just in time. Jamie was immediately airlifted to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Jeff Gordon’s Children's Center in Concord, NC to be cared for, uncertain of what had happened to his family. His care team worked around the clock, not just to treat his injuries, but to bring his loved ones to him. After 36 long hours, Jamie’s grandparents and his sister, Jemma, were all finally reunited at the hospital in the wake of the hurricane devastation. Jamie’s care team began to care for the whole family—buying clothes, securing medical supplies and making sure they were comfortably settled in a room together. Tucker wasn’t forgotten either. The team made arrangements to get Tucker, who was still up near their collapsed home, and reunite Jamie with his furry friend outside of the hospital. Tucker is now being fostered by one of our nurses while the family recovers and works to find a new place to live, giving Jamie the comfort of knowing his family—including his four-legged one—are by his side. While there is still much healing to be done, we are thankful that Jamie and his family are safe and together once again. We extend our deepest gratitude to those first responders who rescued Jamie and got him to us for care. We thank our teammates who didn’t just care for Jamie medically, but also went above and beyond to care for the hearts of the entire family!
