In this recent webinar, Fallon Hughes, DNP, RN, senior director of Nursing Practice, Innovation, Research and EBP for WellSpan Health, and Alisha Wike, RN, bedside nurse at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, discuss current evidence on the role of virtual nursing in healthcare and the role of the virtual nurse in an acute care setting. They compare virtual nurse operational considerations to those of a traditional nurse staffing model, identify implications for patient safety, and interpret virtual nurse implementation outcomes for application at your own facility. Nurse. Innovator. Author. Speaker. LinkedIn Top Voice, First Nurse Featured on Ted.com, Forbes Business Council, President Emeritus: SONSIEL, Chief Nursing Officer
This is the challenge that faces #innovators - they challenge the #StatusQuo - and that means they take personal #risks. But this action of what happened to Kali was wrong. This was a direct attempt to take her license for her efforts to help patients. I often feel #nurses are the worst to each other - we don’t elevate and amplify other #nurses - instead we try to thwart them. We must change this. Kali Dayton, DNP, AGACNP - keep going with all you do. You are making lives better. We stand with you - there are few who make change happen who come through unscathed - but you keep going because you know in the end - you are doing what is best for #patients #nursing and #healthcare. #NursesOnLinkedIn #HealthcareOnLinkedIn
Transformative ICU Consultant | Leading Expert in Awake and Walking ICU Models | Acute Care Nurse Practitioner | "Walking Home From the ICU" Podcast
It finally happened. I have been reported to the board of nursing. After 4 years of podcasting and consulting with ICU teams about the ABCDEF bundle, post-ICU syndrome, ICU delirium, early mobility, etc., someone finally reported me. The complaint filed by a seasoned ICU nurse stated that early mobility in the ICU is “unsafe and unproven” and should not be encouraged. Of course the unfounded complaint was dismissed. This certainly peaked my interest. How can a critical care clinician with 14 years of experience that has worked as a travel nurse throughout the USA be unaware that it is safe to mobilize patients in the ICU? My mentor, Polly Bailey, published this study in 2007: https://lnkd.in/gDjuTYAz Numerous studies followed hers throughout the past 17 years. Now in 2024, when this should be standard of care, many are still unaware of what is possible and best practice. Is this a gap in education? Lack of leadership to keep practices current with evidence? How to we improve education and practices moving forward? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Nurse practitioners are registered nurses with a Master's in advanced practice nursing skills. This provides us the framework to not only diagnose, provide treatment plans and coordinate patient care. But to also ( in my specific case) perform procedures including but not limited to suturing, complex wound care including minor surgical debridement, arterial punctures, Loop recorder implants and cardioversions. Determining and developing a scope of practice under appropriate guidance/ supervision is vital in gaining competency and autonomy #nursepractitionerweek
