Yep, we went to The #DoobieBrothers concert! Awesome! This concert brought me so much #joy! * The staff inside Choctaw Casinos & Resorts the concert venue were gracious and hospitable (food service not so much. I’ll save that for another post) * It was awesome singing out loud and dancing. I didn’t realize how many hits The Doobie Brothers had… and that I knew!!!! * I loved watching the crowd get lost in the joy of the music The moments and memories are priceless, and it was worth it! WHY THIS MATTERS: A quick reflection first - In March 2020, I asked consumers why certain activities (that had been taken away) brought them joy. This is one quote that has always stuck with me. “Music is organic - people naturally respond to, resonating in us like our own hearts beating. When it is shared with others it becomes a connector of the human experience. It helps my soul” Fast forward to today: Consumers are making choices about where and how to spend their money. Our data shows that consumers continue to go out less, but splurge more when they do. Whether you are in QSR to fine dining to a movie theater or concert venue, what will you do to create fabulous first impressions and memorable lasting impressions? #bringmorejoy #momentsandmemories #concerts #guestexperience

Applying Marketing Science (how marketing ACTUALLY works) to Festivals & Events - creating effective marketing that grows brands and ultimately, achieves business results.
I experienced this first hand the other day, with a meal out. I’d never been to Flat Iron before, but they clearly understand the Peak End Rule. Well, they also know the importance of first impressions; with a tasty bowl of popcorn served up as soon as we sat down. But fast forward to the bill, and accompanying it came some mini cleavers, which turned out to be tokens for free (and really good) ice-cream. Yeah, I remember the highlight - the steak. But that ice-cream finish also stands out, and sure did help shape the way I (positively) remembered the overall experience I had! The lesson for festivals and events? You may not be able to shape and influence everyones peak ‘most intense’ points (the highlights), but you sure can try and do something when the time comes for them to leave. And what with the importance of immediately selling tickets for next year's event to this year's customer, the Peak End Rule is something you need to give some attention to. #Festivals #Events #FestivalMarketing #EventMarketing

Domino's Pizza introduces a flying messenger 🤭 Rocket Man' via Jetpack It's a bird! It's a plane! Is this a pizza delivery? Domino's recently wowed concertgoers at the Glastonbury Music Festival in Somerset, England, By delivering the world's first pizza using Jetpack. "When we realized it was impossible to serve pizza inside the festival, we took inspiration from this year's headliner to launch our own express delivery trial - it was a bit of a no-brainer," said Domino's assistant director of public relations, Sam Wilson. "Every year we see a huge number of random requests from festival goers trying to sneak pizza into the party," added Wilson. "So, this year we wanted to try out our Rocket Guard service to help hungry campers get a share of future sky contentment." To make all of this happen, Domino's partnered with Gravity Industries , a world leader in jet suit manufacturing. A spokesperson for the tech company admitted the delivery was an "unusual use" of their suits, but said Jetpack-powered pizza could be the future of on-demand efficiency. "Keeping pizza hot using the jet suit is definitely an unusual use of our technology and pizza is not in our normal flight plan," the spokesperson said. "But being able to exceed the average delivery time by flying in the fields of Somerset to feed festival goers with the pizza delivery experts certainly shows the future of fast delivery service." Considering that Gravity Industry suits start at $400,000 each and can only carry two pizzas at a time, it's safe to assume that Domino's is unlikely to adopt this delivery method at scale anytime soon. However, with drone deliveries the norm, and now flying "rocket men" a reality, perhaps these futuristic services zooming overhead will be a common sight sooner than we think.

Have you ever been to a whisky festival? They are a great day out with friends, doing something different, even those who aren't normally whisky drinkers (there will generally be other things there too). Whisky festivals are a fantastic way to learn about whisky, without spending much. It's eye-opening how much more to whisky there is than we first experience. At most events the cost of the ticket covers all samples, so you can explore as much as you want without breaking the bank, learning about how they are made, variances between brands and regions, how different styles have very different flavours, and hopefully find new favourites you'd like to investigate further. The best bit is that whisky people a really supportive community, all wanting to learn more and help others on their whisky journeys. The last few years has seen the growth of smaller regional whisky festivals, bringing the whisky to you, as opposed to the massive trade dominated events, making it even easier to try one out and have some #WhiskyFun. To help everyone find their local #WhiskyFestival I have created a map and list of all the events in the UK....obviously the best being the Summerton Whisky Festival on 18th May in St Albans (but I might be biased 😁). I've include the link to the festival list/map in the comments below...hopefully I'll share a dram with you at one of there, or even my festival 🥃. #WhiskyDayOut #TrySomethingNew

So, the summer has been fast and furious so far with a short breather now before the final festival of the season for us, where we will be taking an event safety and food safety team in to Victorious festival which, for those who do not know, is an 80,000, 3 day music festival in Portsmouth. Check out #VictoriousFestival The summer has been challenging mostly due to the weather and not doing what it should! Pretty much the same as last year but instead of being dry and hot it has been cold, rainy and windy. NOT your typical weather for the UK for either year. As an operations and event safety company, the weather is becoming an every increasing challenge to manage on site. Getting the right resources (equipment, people and time) and procedures (that are disseminated to staff) in place is critical to having a safe event. By most accounts the weather is only going to become more changeable, and it is beholden to us to ensure we advise our clients on the possibilities of these developments and make sure our plans are in place and are robust. Do you discuss your adverse weather plans with the event team to make sure there really is a plan in place? or are they just another appendix to the ESMP? #eventprofs #festivals #operations #safety #weatherresistant #crisismanagement

When a punk band I mildly enjoyed in my teenage years announced one of their first East Coast dates in nearly 20 years at a dive bar a mile and a half from my house, it seemed like a great excuse to spend twenty bucks, enjoy a few PBRs, and sing along to the five songs I could remember the words to. However, when the promoter announced, with less than a week’s notice, that the show would now be at a venue 30 minutes away, in the heart of a tourist area, during the busiest holiday weekend of the summer, I had to recalibrate my desire to go. Now, instead of a nice walk, it would be a 30-minute drive plus parking (about $50 on Fourth of July Weekend) or at least $80 in Uber costs. The band wasn’t one I would’ve sought out, but it seemed like a cool opportunity to hop in the way-back machine just a few minutes from my house. As of writing, I’ve reached out to the promoter for a refund. If I don’t hear back, I’ll most likely chalk up a $20 loss and spend the evening with my family. Pretend you arrive at the end of your street. Whether you go right or left, you end up at a brewery with a quality atmosphere, quality beer, and quality staff. Everything else being the same, but the brewery to the right is a half mile closer. Where do you end up most often? For me, it’s nearly always to the right. Of course, it doesn’t normally play out this easily, yet convenience can still be a prime driver of which taproom a person chooses to visit. It certainly impacted my motivation to attend a concert (note: the concert’s new location was even at a brewery). Often, we only think about the experiential factors that influence a person’s decision to visit. Things like, does the brewery have food? What’s the beer selection like? Is the staff friendly? Do I like the vibe? Before we even get to those criteria, we pre-determine the radius of breweries we are even choosing from. Is it feasible for me to pick a taproom within 5 miles? 10? 20? 50?

Non-alcoholic brands planning 2024 festival activations should consider consider incorporating hawker programs into their agreements. Energy drinks, functional beverages, and sparkling waters, unrestricted by age limits, unlock vast sampling opportunities, appealing to a broader audience. Major music festivals, particularly those with large beverage sponsorships, feature large footprints and attract massive attendance. Iconic ones such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Firefly, are also known for their multi-day camping options. Sampling initiatives, whether in the bustling crowd, near the vibrant stage, or within the lively campsites, provide a concierge-like experience that enhances brand interaction. A well executed hawker campaign opens doors to more personalized engagement, trial and awareness. 📸: 2015 UME Festival South Padre Island #experientialmarketing #fieldmarketing #brandstrategy
