The DACH-Healthcare Innovation Summit facilitated the exchange between relevant players in the healthcare sector 🗣️The discussion showed that regulation and innovation are not opposed to each other. Regulators can and want to promote the development of new medicines, innovative medical devices and technologies with adapted or new framework conditions and standards. Innovative regulators can, at any stage of development, advice on regulatory requirements and provide general guidance on issues that need to be considered when developing or testing innovative health care products and technologies. 💬Proven success factors are the early and continuous dialogue, collaboration and coevolution in the field of regulation of innovative products in Europe and worldwide and – especially – openness for also challenging discussions between regulators and with the pharmaceutical and medtech industry. 💡Last but not least, we all should be aware that innovation is not an end in itself, but innovation always has to contribute to improve the patients access to substantial benefit. 🌟 Highlights from Our Recent Meetings in the US Health Care Sector 🌟 In today's dynamic health care landscape, successful companies need to continuously innovate and adapt to evolving market conditions. During our recent trip to the United States, we gathered valuable insights from several health care companies. Here are the key takeaways: • 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬: We observed a cautious tone as a weak funding environment for small biotech companies and cautious R&D spend by large biopharma continues to pressure demand. Despite noting the uncertainty, the companies we spoke to expect growth rates to pick up in the second half of 2024 and remain convinced about the long-term prospects of their businesses. • 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚: Due to the weaker funding environment and higher cost of capital, many companies are reprioritizing their pipelines, focusing on programs closer to regulatory approval. Increased deal activity was noted as companies seek to in-license strategically aligned opportunities. • 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡: Companies in this sector are operating in a more normalized environment post-pandemic which allows for a greater emphasis on innovation.
