When it comes to sharing ideas, how much does close proximity matter? Short answer - Magic happens within 20 meters ! #Startups within 20 meters of each other influence each other the most in the choice and implementation of web technologies. According to a study, working within that short distance increases a company’s probability of adopting a neighbor’s technology by 3 percentage points. Beyond 20 meters, the influence of proximity declines quickly. The study found that doubling the distance between two firms reduced the probability of technology adoption by 1.7 percent. New (& very cool) MIT Sloan research by Christian Catalini, Maria Roche, and Alexander Oettl emphasizes the importance of physical proximity for knowledge spillovers among startups. Their study found that startups within 20 meters of each other in a coworking space have a higher chance of adopting similar technologies, highlighting the benefits of face-to-face interactions. This research is a great reminder of the value of early-stage interactions and how being close can lead to innovation and growth. As we navigate the in-office vs. remote work debate, this is a strong case for maintaining some level of in-person collaboration. Thanks for sharing, Kostas Stamatiadis! https://lnkd.in/emEsxdBW

Fascinating and very insightful study by Harvard Business School Professor Maria Roche et. al. showing the underappreciated value of physical interactions with colleagues within a precisely defined boundary of proximity. #remotework #hybridwork #innovation #teamwork #startups #entrepreneurship https://lnkd.in/ehaQu6y6

"startups located within 20 meters of ... peer startups were more likely to receive more than $1 million in seed and other funding compared with startups that were not located in a balanced environment." Interesting research published from MIT Sloan School of Management has shown the important link between knowledge spillover and physical proximity. At CERI - Centre for Entrepreneurial Research and Innovation, our 7 resident startup offices are all within a 20m radius of one another, maximising the potential for startup "collisions". If you would like to learn more about the CERI Residency Program and the other services that we offer, please join our upcoming "Intro to CERI" webinar by clicking on the link in the comments below. #startup #innovation https://lnkd.in/gKeCEAZE

In a published research by MIT Sloan School of Management, they found that startups working in a coworking space within 20 meters of each other had a 2.5% increase in probability of adopting the same technology used by another startup working close by. This is due to knowledge spillover, which is the transmission of ideas among different teams or groups of people. Interestingly, more knowledge spillover occurs when the startups had two different product markets compared to startups with similar product markets! Ladies and Gentlemen, It brings me great pleasure to announce our next event: https://lu.ma/o3raemz4 January 21st, 2025 New York City startup leaders — we are bringing together some of the most insightful people we know to entertain and educate you with their stories about building successful businesses. This event has an unusual format, because it is a collaboration between me and Tavern. https://lnkd.in/eZiq5k9r Tavern Community Coworking is hosting an all-day event. My event is only a small part of that. You can come for the whole day, or simply come for the talks in the afternoon. 11:30 AM Welcome and mingle 12:30 PM Communal lunch 1:30 PM Panel discussion 3:00 PM Coworking and networking 4:30 PM Happy hour Between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM we will have six speakers, each speaking for only six minutes. These "lightning round" talks are mere icebreakers, designed to start conversations. While on stage: Strict focus, strict time limits. Instead of a Q&A segment, the speakers will mix with everyone as soon as the talks are over. We encourage you to approach the speakers and engage them directly. The format is designed to be fluid, informal, and social. Maximum capacity, during the day, is only about 50 people. (I happen to know that Tavern sent out their announcement earlier today and we've already sold 14 tickets, for an event that is still more than a month a way. So it is clear we will sell out quickly and hit max capacity.) I should note that these events will happen monthly during 2025. If you miss the chance to get tickets for the January occasion, let us know and we'll notify you early about the February event. You may recall that, since 2017, I have been hosting an informal, once-a-month gathering for NYC tech startups. This new event is an outgrowth of that previous effort — but now, with the support of Tavern, we are able to offer an experience that has greater structure and purpose. Tavern was founded by Ben Schwartz. Ben's original idea was to organize one-day, all-day "co-working space" events. This appeals to many people, including those who might feel isolated working at home. These events have been wildly popular. I have carefully selected speakers who have fantastic insights to share about how to grow a successful startup. Whether the problem is team conflict, mentoring junior staff, mentoring senior staff, having to fire someone, trying to find "product market fit," or working on a shoestring budget and having to offer incentives other than money … we have brought together a council of wisdom that will stun you with the depth and originality of their insights. I will see you on January 21st! Lawrence Krubner 434.825.7694

A former tire warehouse on Glasgow Street is now the biggest privately-owned co-working space in Canada--Catalyst Commons. It has more than 150 startups and tech companies, and is thriving while many other commercial landlords are dealing with empty and under-used offices. #CatalystCommons #Startups #technology #innovation #Miovision #KurtisMcBride #AmberFrench #AngelaWatkins #OntarioVehicleInnovationNetwork #incubators #accelerators https://lnkd.in/ggsx2ZD2
