Cynthia Cosme Cravo, 47, is a valued member of our Positive Living Community and a strong patient advocate who shared her lived experience and learnings with us. "We should demystify cancer and finish with the cancer patient stereotype. Don’t pretend cancer is not out there, not talking about it or not getting informed about it, does not avoid it, It just makes it more unknown and fearful. Treat your body well and have health screening regularly. I really value simple things in my everyday life and I’m in a hurry because I want to do many things, many projects. If my life is shorter than I expected, I don’t want to waste time crying or lamenting, I want to live! Celebrate life, love family and friends and as a good Brazilian, party! For sure I fear that my body doesn’t respond positively to the medication anymore, but I don’t let this fear stop me from enjoying the good things of my life. When sadness hits, I look back and see many things I have done since my diagnosis then. I am living my best life! I’m feeling stronger both emotionally and physically. There’s always a voice in the back of my mind reminding me that things can change but I have learned to ignore it and focus on the present." Hi Network, I wanted to share this insightful article by Alejandra Mendez that deeply resonates with my beliefs. It challenges the use of warlike language in the context of a cancer journey—something that has always made me uncomfortable. Firstly, as Alejandra points out, such language implies that those who pass away from cancer are somehow "losers" in a battle, which is far from the truth. People don’t die because they were weak or lacked the will to live. Also affects their family. Secondly, having grown up in a country without an army, I’ve never seen war as a metaphor for the challenges we face. Illness isn’t an enemy—it’s just one part of life, not its defining feature. I hope we can start changing the way we talk about cancer, reducing the stigma and opening up conversations. This is crucial for so many reasons, including early diagnosis, psychological support, and informed policy decisions. Thank you, Alejandra Mendez, for shedding light on this important topic. #CancerAwareness #CanCan #EndTheStigma #HealthAdvocacy #CancerJourney #MentalHealthMatters #CompassionateCare #PatientEmpowerment #LifeBeyondCancer #InclusiveLanguage

🎗️ Tomorrow is October 1st, which marks the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️ As a survivor, this cause holds a special place in my heart. When I was diagnosed, my world was flipped upside down. It felt like everything I knew suddenly changed. Looking back, there are 3 things I wish I could have told myself during that difficult time: 1. Google is not your friend. There’s so much information out there, but not all of it is helpful. Trust your doctors, not the endless search results. 2. Find women going through this with you. The women I've met along the way have been my strength, my community, and my inspiration. Having people to lean on who truly understand makes all the difference. 💖 3. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Your story isn’t the same as anyone else’s. Take care of your mind as much as your body, and don’t compare your journey to others. For anyone fighting breast cancer right now, please know that you are not alone. You have an army of women ready to rally behind you, lift you up, and help you fight. 💪 This month, let’s raise awareness about early detection, support one another, and keep hope alive. #BreastCancerAwareness #EarlyDetection #YouAreNotAlone #ThinkPink #StrongerTogether

As we dive into Blood Cancer Awareness Month, let’s shine a light on an often-overlooked aspect of the leukemia journey: the relentless uncertainty that lingers long after the fight. Even post-recovery, leukemia's shadow can loom large with ongoing treatment effects and emotional turbulence. This is a call to arms not just for physical health but for mental wellness too. Guiding patients through mental health resources and acknowledging the psychological toll can be transformative. Because true remission is a victory of both body and mind. #BloodCancer #AwarenessMonth

Cancer tried to dim my light, turning my emotions into a rollercoaster on steroids. One minute I felt like a raging lion, the next a puddle of tears. But here's the thing: I refused to let it control me. I learned to acknowledge my feelings: tears streamed freely in my journal, anger found its voice in long talks with my bestie, and fear? I faced it head-on with my therapist. It wasn't about being weak, it was about understanding myself. Then came digging deeper: was it the med side effects making me cranky? Or the fatigue pushing me down? Knowledge became my weapon, helping me predict and manage the emotional waves. But I couldn't do it alone. My online community became my cheerleaders. We laughed, cried, and shared everything in our virtual haven. Their love was the anchor that kept me afloat. Let's connect! I'm ready to speak at your event and share the lessons learned on my journey.
