Our ECMO initiative began when Helmsley Trustee Walter Panzirer met with Dr. Demetris Yannopoulos, the visionary behind the first #ECPR program in the United States, bringing #ECMO to cardiac arrest patients. Since then, we've expanded our ECMO support to organizations in Montana and Nevada. Why? "It became an equity issue" because of how little access rural communities have to the life-saving treatment, Panzirer recently said to Inside Philanthropy. We believe that your zip code should never determine your health outcome. We believe that ECMO needs to be included in the standard of cardiac care, and has a future role in cardiac arrest response. It is essential to fund its expansion, both beyond the walls of a hospital, as we did with Dr. Yannopoulos and the ECPR program, and to build ECMO capacity at the hospitals where rural patients come to receive care. Read more about our ECMO and cardiac initiatives in this feature from Inside Philanthropy, which you can read with a subscription here: https://bit.ly/4adBZMU

Engagement with Patient & Public Networks Webinar Date: 18 June 2024 10.00-13.00 The Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC) progresses a number of innovative and exciting collaborations with its patient facing partners since its origin in 2019. This webinar is designed to bring together lay and patient representation from both its Board and Advisory Group partners, as well as patient organisations and charities. The aim is to understand better the needs of patient and public engagement from a Perioperative perspective. The webinar will include presentations from speakers investigating the Psychological and Behavioural science backgrounds of patients’ needs and wants, as well as patientvoices Royal College of Anaesthetists RCOA. There will be an opportunity to develop these ideas in breakout groups to produce a consensus statement which CPOC will use to further develop the patient facing perioperative strategy. Top 10 #Type1Diabetes research priorities - chosen by people with #T1D, their families and healthcare professionals – have just been published. Watch the video to see the top 10 👇🏽 As the UK’s largest charitable funder of diabetes research, it’s critical that the research we fund address the concerns of people with diabetes and those who care for them. It’s also critical that we make sure others - academics, healthcare professionals and other research funders – hear these views loud and clear and act upon them. We’re proud to work with the Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) initiative, run by the James Lind Alliance and supported by the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), to help bring the views of people with real-life experience of diabetes into research. Through surveys and workshops, this initiative finds and prioritises their most urgent concerns that can be answered through research. The top 10 #research priorities chosen by the #T1D community and led by Health Research Board (HRB) have just been published through this initiative 👇🏽 https://lnkd.in/ebUEWXWi More about this work, including how it will help us direct research funding to where it’s needed most 👇🏽 https://lnkd.in/e9HpGxzP
