Thrilled to share our experience at the Digitalk Conference in Sofia! This gathering of minds in digital innovation and AI has provided a fertile ground for discussing pressing issues in our global economy and in the future of AI and technology in addressing these issues. One critical challenge discussed by Akis Bratsos from Lakestar was the supply chain in health care and how AI could be supportive of this. As innovators on the front line in mental health and addiction recovery, we can confirm with a resounding yes that this is a major issue. Earlier this year, at the Psychotherapy Associates Winter Symposium, state officials presented data that unequivocally shows the scale of this issue. Unfortunately, according to the data, things are only going to get worse, a lot worse (65% increase in need for addiction treatment services and a 15% expected decline in available clinicians, YIKES!). It was exciting for us today to hear the resonance of the supply chain issue again from major investors in the field and the shared potential and spirit of urgency in the need to address the problem. It is one more way to validate what we at Sentur already have as a thesis on AI and mental health care, particularly in delivering blended, trauma-informed care for substance use. It is through the intentional, responsible, and bold development of cutting-edge tech solutions together with subject-matter experts in trauma care and addiction recovery that we can address the shortage in resources and continuum of care. While some may consider it unreasonable to consider such a vision (which, according to Bogdan Iordache from Underline Ventures, is a great thing 😉), we believe it is the only path forward. People's lives will depend on it. Part of our work in addressing the supply chain issue is designing and developing our groundbreaking solution for substance abuse facilities, Optima. Our commitment is to revolutionize mental health care by integrating cutting-edge technology with compassionate, client-centered solutions. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to breaking down barriers and making mental health resources and recovery more accessible to everyone, especially those battling substance use. We're excited to be here among passionate peers! #DigitalK #MentalHealthInnovation #HealthTech #TraumaInformedCare #SubstanceUseRecovery #sentur

Recently, the FDA has accepted a supplemental New Drug Application (sNDA) for brexpiprazole in combination with sertraline to treat adults with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This combination therapy, supported by data from three randomized clinical trials, demonstrated consistent reductions in #PTSD symptoms. If approved, it would be the first FDA-approved pharmacological option for PTSD in over 20 years. PTSD is a prevalent mental health disorder, affecting approximately 13 million adults annually in the US. 🔍 Bridging the AI-Human Gap in Addiction Counseling After 3 decades in the field, I've learned that effective treatment is about connection. So how do we ethically integrate AI? 1. Use AI for data analysis, not replacement 2. Prioritize privacy in all tech implementations 3. Train counselors on AI capabilities AND limitations 4. Maintain human oversight in all AI interactions Remember: Technology should enhance, not replace, human empathy. How are you navigating this in your practice? #AddictionCounseling #AIEthics #MentalHealthTech

Day 5 Promoting Mental Well-being Through Innovation: Cognito Health's Pioneering Approach 🧠💡 In the quest for better mental health services, Vancouver Island's own Cognito Health has been leading the charge, offering a groundbreaking platform that connects individuals with psychiatric nurses for comprehensive mental health assessments and care. This initiative not only bridges the gap in accessibility but also sets a new standard in personalized mental health support. Around the globe, we're witnessing a revolution in mental health care through technology. From AI-powered chatbots like Woebot that offer cognitive behavioral therapy to platforms like Mindstrong, which uses smartphone interactions as biomarkers for mental health, innovation is at the forefront of tackling mental health challenges. Inspired by Cognito Health and global successes, VanIsle AI envisions leveraging AI to further enhance mental health services on Vancouver Island. Imagine AI-driven platforms that can predict mental health episodes before they occur, provide real-time interventions, and offer personalized care plans based on data-driven insights. Such technologies could not only improve the quality of care but also make mental health services more proactive and preventive. The scalability of such AI solutions means we can envision a future where mental health support is more accessible and effective not just on Vancouver Island but across Canada and globally. By integrating AI with telehealth services, we can reach remote communities, reduce barriers to access, and ensure that everyone has the support they need, when they need it. As Cognito Health leads by example, we invite local businesses, healthcare providers, and technology innovators to join us in this endeavor. Let's collaborate to make mental health care more accessible, effective, and personalized through AI. Share your thoughts on how we can leverage technology for mental well-being. Improving the detection of behavioral health conditions through positive and unlabeled learning: opioid use disorder #OHDSISocialShowcase #JoinTheJourney Lead: Praveen Kumar Co-Author: Christophe Lambert Background: Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a chronic behavioral health condition marked by prolonged opioid use that leads to significant distress or impairment of brain structure and function. The opioid crisis continues to be a significant public health problem worldwide. Globally, opioid use disorders afflict over 16 million people, including more than 2.1 million individuals in the US alone. Additionally, opioids contribute to more than 120,000 deaths annually worldwide. In 2020, 91,799 drug overdose deaths occurred in the US, with opioids contributing to 74.8% of all those deaths. Accurately detecting and estimating behavioral health conditions, such as OUD, is crucial for identifying at-risk individuals, determining treatment needs, tracking prevention and intervention efforts, and finding treatment-naive individuals for clinical trials. With increased data availability and improved machine learning (ML) frameworks, researchers have recently started applying ML models to healthcare data to analyze various aspects of the opioid crisis. Nevertheless, underdiagnosis and undercoding of these conditions in electronic health records (EHRs) and claims data are common, with this missing data potentially compromising the reliability of analytics and inferences drawn from EHRs. Our study employs a novel Positive and Unlabeled (PU) machine learning method to estimate the probability of an individual patient having OUD and the overall prevalence of OUD among individuals who have been exposed to at least one opioid in their lifetime. Furthermore, we examine differences in OUD diagnosis versus our imputed estimates across US states using administrative claims data. Since the Selected Completely At Random (SCAR) assumption is often not valid in healthcare data due to the fact that coded cases may not be true representatives of undetected cases (e.g., severe cases may more likely to generate a healthcare encounter), we applied our novel PU learning algorithm, “Positive Unlabeled Learning Selected Not At Random (PULSNAR),” to estimate the proportion of OUD among undetected individuals. PULSNAR can also generate a calibrated estimate of the probability that each patient has a given condition, assuming other patient healthcare data (i.e., conditions, procedures, drugs) are correlated with the condition of interest. The full details of our PU learning algorithm are available in a preprint. https://lnkd.in/esWG4S9g
