One of my favorite #SuperBowlLVIII commercials was hands-down Dove's "Hard Knocks".
Not only was it emotionally powerful, but it tackled a vital issue: how low body confidence, not the actual challenges, leads girls to quit sports. They showed that around 45% of girls quit sports by age 14.
This impactful ad perfectly aligns with Dove's ongoing mission to empower women and girls, which I deeply admire. They consistently find creative ways to spark important conversations about self-esteem and encourage all of us to embrace our strength!

Sure, the Ad is now a few months dated but this is topical particularly during Black History Month…
I’ll go first.
Finally a woman of color in the mainstream talking about equestrian sports but black equestrians aren’t a new thing — so why have they been written out of the history books? And now that NBCUniversal has taken this leap forward, what is it really willing to push past one Ad? How are they going to change the conversation in who is deemed acceptable to participate in equestrian sports? But perhaps they are only focused on the number of likes that their Ad got.
Equestrian sports is a $300B business that focuses on a select and elite few… but what if players like Nike, Adidas, and PUMA Group got in the game and then what if retailers like Target or Walmart waved their magic wands? I think that $300B could look like a hell of a lot more if there were more kids that saw themselves on horses or involved in equine activities…but what do I know 🤷🏽♀️.
