A comprehensive action plan for the elderly care in Saudi Arabia On the eve of Arab Health Exhibition please find below my article on #eldercare in the #ksa. I will be there at #arabhealth2024 and more then happy to discuss how we can assist you if you are looking to expand in this sector. Please contract on mansoor.ahmed@colliers.com A focus on elderly care in KSA requires substantial investment and offers significant opportunities, says Mansoor Ahmed, Executive Director I Middle East & Africa (MEA) at Colliers. Saudi Arabia is experiencing a steady increase in the number of elderly which calls for a comprehensive action plan to take care of their health, psychological, physical and social needs. By 2030, 42 per cent of the Saudi population is expected to be over the age of 40 and 10.4 per cent over the age of 60. This will further propel the need for healthcare services with a specific focus on rehabilitative services to meet this growing demand. The greatest challenge lies in the shortage of manpower as the number of physicians and specialised nurses and allied healthcare personnel for rehabilitation is insufficient. With new hospital developments underway, the competition to hire experienced and skilled physicians, nurses and allied workforce is further set to intensify. Currently, the market is in its nascent stage and many existing LTC, Rehab and HC facilities lack advanced medical capabilities. As the market matures, more centres providing specialised comprehensive rehabilitation such as neurorehabilitation, cardiopulmonary, pediatric and musculoskeletal rehabilitation will come into existence. Colliers’ Healthcare, Wellness, Life Sciences, PPP and Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Advisory & Valuation Services team is actively working with several local, regional and international investors and operators to facilitate entry and/or expansion in KSA’s lucrative LTC, Rehab and HC sector. As an Emirate, Abu Dhabi has so much to offer, and we are working tirelessly to accelerate the future of healthcare on a global scale. We had the opportunity to showcase our efforts during @Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week (ADGHW), and welcome leaders from around the world to join us on that journey. Throughout the week, we at the @Department of Health Abu Dhabi announced some incredible partnerships that solidify our commitment to fostering a healthier future for all. There are there announcements that are especially exciting to me. The first is the signing of the agreement between the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and the International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM) to enhance and develop emergency care services and to inaugurate its first regional office in Abu Dhabi. I feel this will be a major milestone in advancing Emergency Medicine in our region and beyond. (Link: https://lnkd.in/dVTr5tj2) The second is our partnership with @GSK to establish a regional vaccine distribution centre here in Abu Dhabi, which further demonstrates our dedication to enhancing health services and contributing to a healthier future for our local population and those in need within our region. The third is our collaborative report with @Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR) which delves into Abu Dhabi’s health ecosystem. My three takeaways were how: · Proactive adoption of AI and digital health tech enhances emergency preparedness · Expanding capacity and renowned institutions enable rapid emergency responses · Focusing on upskilling and local talent ensures resilient healthcare delivery Abu Dhabi’s healthcare system emerged as a global exemplar of resilience. I look forward to what the future holds, and I hope everyone remembers that ADGHW is not just a one-time event, but rather an ongoing platform dedicated to the future of health. #ADGHW #Collaboration Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week #IFEM International Federation of Emergency Medicine #AHealthierAbuDhabi #ADGHW #Healthcare #AbuDhabiGlobalHealthcareWeek

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad has proposed expanding “private wings” in government hospitals to raise revenue for the country’s underfunded public health care system. Speaking at the World Cancer Congress (WCC) 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland, Dzulkefly said that establishing full-paying patient (FPP) services within Ministry of Health (MOH) hospitals would help boost revenue by offering private services through existing infrastructure. “I would believe that as a tax-based health financing system, I’ve got to be moving into things like having private health facilities within a public hospital. That would be like a full-paying patient wing in a public hospital where you could actually generate income,” Dzulkefly told a plenary session yesterday at WCC 2024 that was open to virtual media coverage. In this sense, I now could generate a special-purpose vehicle (SPV) kind of thing – where it’s part of MOH – where we could actually deliver a kind of a private wing that you could charge. “You must understand now, in our system, to see a doctor, you only pay RM1, which is only about 20 cents, and to see a specialist, you are paying RM5, which is about US$1 and that, going forward, is certainly not sustainable.” This new programme expanding private wings in government hospitals via an SPV is called Rakan MOH. #medicolegal #healthcare #mlsm
