As I go about my business this morning I can still see the impacts of the Crowdstrike issue. Fortunately, it's not a product we deploy... however I don't feel in any way vindicated by this, or that we made the right choice and others made the wrong choice. If we switched providers every time one of them had a major issue, we'd be incredibly busy and very quickly run out of options. Hardware and software is made by fallible humans (currently) and there will always be issues and outages. How they respond to this incident in the coming days and weeks is the measure of what I will think of Crowdstrike as a solution/company.

However Crowdstrike is one of biggest and highest rated vendor by the Gartner, but they taken a stupid mistake which cause an outage for many companies at many sectors. However we can have best of breed vendors and products, but we must have experiences, routines and best practices to solve extremely hard and complex issues. However it is impossible to completely elliminate outages but we have to ready to mitigate downtime by the most efficient and most effective manner. It is essential to prepare and train our staff by an update of BCP, test and review of DRP regularly and define usecases, runbooks and playbooks for typical and non-typical situations. We don't expect to face similar problems, but we have to preparing us to able to take investigations for many type of problems. Unfortunately it is not a productive activity and it does not increase revenue directly, but it is required to have the ability to adapt in order to be resilient in the face of many type of problems. I'm no expert in the stock market, but if you own shares of Crowdstrike Holdings Inc then you might want to ditch them. You know the value of a brand is in the toilet when the news stations that are hammering you are being knocked off the air because of your software. It appears like it was a dodgy driver that was released by Crowdstrike. The fix is manual and painful, especially if your dealing with a total network outage. I can imagine a lot of questions being asked and contracts being cancelled. I can also imagine certain legal councils updating their LinkedIn profiles today to avoid the inevitable and indefensible storm.

Did the recent CrowdStrike outage impact your business or personal life? Everyone I’ve talked to seems to have been impacted by the outage in one way or another, whether they were trying to board a plane or complete a financial transaction. One thing is clear: The CrowdStrike debacle was a stark reminder that even the most advanced technology relies on the human element. Technology may be the backbone of business operations. But there’s a team of incredible humans behind the scenes righting the ship. Technologies are bound to fail, and when they do, companies have to step up and own their failures. Rapid response teams, customer support… these are the unsung heroes. More human oversight could help prevent future scenarios like the one at CrowdStrike.
