BP Translation Conferences

I'm not as active on social media as some of my younger colleagues -- I prefer posting something after a major milestone. Organizing an international conference has always been a rather complex affair, each year with its own country-specific challenges. (I may write a separate post on this soon...) Anyway, I did reach a major milestone yesterday, when I finally opened the registration for BP24 Translation Conference, my brainchild that started off 10 years ago. This year, our annual 'school trip'* takes place in Seville, gathering freelance translators from around the world. In fact, on the very first day, people registered from Uruguay to Ukraine, from Toronto to Tunis. The basic premise (BP!) of these conferences has remained the same since the very start: teaching Business & Practice for professional translators (a.k.a. 'Badass Polyglots') -- skills that are usually hardly mentioned at translation courses. Skills that are essential for freelancers to survive and thrive on a marketplace where they face competition increasingly not by their colleagues, but various algorithms. We, translators, like to take pride in what we do, and how a wide range of expertise and skills is necessary to provide an excellent service to our customers. In short: our intelligence is not artificial. For translators and conference organisers, staying in the game requires pretty much the same: staying curious, staying focused, and staying ahead of the curve. Have a nice stay in Seville! *'BP Translation Conferences are like school trips with your besties, but without bullies' -- overheard at the closing ceremony at BP18 in Vienna

Registration for BP24 is finally open! Even on the first day of registration (yesterday), freelancers signed up from from Uruguay to Ukraine, from Toronto to Tunis. We'll have a rich programme on offer, with over 25 core sessions over two days, several more online, and 2 workshops on the pre-conference day. As usual, we'll have a welcome reception and a gala dinner, all in beautiful settings, plus a range of fringe events such as walking tours, day trips, and even a flamenco night. Our event app will be operational from late February. You still have some time to be among the first 120 people who can register at the Early Bird rate #Translation #CPD #Seville #Sevilla #Spain #Traducción #Traductores #Conference #BP24conf #Translators

After recommending this for years to her, I'm sending Gillian Sloane-Seale on my behalf Csaba Bán. I'm still hoping to somehow attend this year in person. At the very least I'll be atttending the online version.

All the best and enjoy your school trip! Unfortunately I won't be able to join my favourite translators as I'll be interpreting in Sweden.
