An alarming mass resignation at Dickinson State University is a stark reminder about the interconnected role of advocacy, accreditation and regulation in the support for nursing programs. In the most recent OADN Leadership Message, CEO Rick García notes, "Faculty and program administrators’ advocacy for students, programs, and end-of-program outcomes is crucial," and that, "local advocacy allows members to address specific community needs and adapt educational programs to local healthcare environments." With all due respect to these nurse researchers and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada - please acknowledge that Nursing leadership would better serve regulated nurses by researching how the workloads in all regulated nursing fields are hurting HC systems, HC consumers and regulated nurses. Compensation gaps, which are effectively unjustified, are tolerated and promoted by regulated nurses’ unions, syndicates and HC human resources/government ministries across Canada; it is important to note that unions and syndicates are generally ‘satisfied’ with monetary compensation for their members. The driver for dissatisfaction is the ‘HC environment, globally’. Please explain, how and why you believe your research will be a basis to motivate governments, unions, syndicates and institutional leaders, to negotiate ‘fair’ wages and other financial compensation for regulated nurses. Please explain why you are apparently not concerned with the ‘increased workload’ phenomenon that continues to increase without respite, putting regulated nurses and patients at increased risks of physical and mental harm as presented in various reliable Canadian studies re workers compensation for sick leave, incidents and accidents reporting, etc since Covid-19.
