National Caregivers Day… A day to recognize the strength that knows no bounds. Where ordinary becomes extraordinary. With hands, that carry the weight of others with unwavering grace and reslience. A caregivers strength is physical. It’s emotional. It’s spiritual. Caregivers navigate the complexities behind caring for someone: staying up all night, bearing the weight of anxiety for an entire family, medical appointments, advocacy, education, medication, inclusion, research, life and death. While they carry the weight of the responsibilities, they’re worrying about the siblings who carry the weight of understanding and support. Caregivers are the unsung heroes who embody love, empathy and selflessness in their very being. Caregivers reach strengths beyond what the human body and heart can imagine. Here’s to all the caregivers, blessing the world with their extraordinary capacity to care for others.

Nurse coach, trainer, and keynote speaker. I help visionary healthcare organizations empower nurses and nurse leaders to become and inspire positive change in the workplace.
Who is responsible for the current state of senior living? Anytime we have any problem, whether It’s an individual problem or a collective problem, what’s the invitation? Where is the invitation to #stepup our game? It always has to do with… 🔆What would be a greater level of #excellence? 🔆What would be a more #compassionate heart? 🔆What would be a more #generosity of spirit that I’m not displaying now? The responsibility of creating #transformation in #SeniorLiving is a #Collective one. The state of senior living and all of our #urgent challenges (retention, staffing, keeping up with technology, burnout, depression, compassion, fatigue, engagement, patient satisfaction, toxic culture, lack of trust etc.) are not exclusive to one geographic area of senior living. These challenges not only affect our #nurses and the #nurseleaders, but also affect our #providers, executive leadership and our owner-operators. Our challenges are also not the sole #responsibility of one person or one group. It’s up to ALL of #us. All of us need to ask the question, how can 👉 I 👈 make a better #contribution than 👉 I 👈 have? and How do WE work #together to make the highest level of contribution that WE can? This is the #path, the #principles to #stand on, to #empower #change. A willingness to #thinkdifferently, to change our collective experience in Senior living and the world. We got this! ❤️ Liz Drewiske Ali Fakher, BSN, RN, Michael Maclaren Briana Hilmer Anna Hall Alex Whitefield, MSN, RN Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL Jennifer Thietz, MSN, RN Daniel Lawson Katie Kristoff Loe Hornbuckle #HighperformanceNursing #NurseLeadershipCoach #Communication #Relationships #Trust #selfactualization #Collaboration #Serve #Movement #LovingDisruption #Love #Healing

Yes. Health care professionals need education in the health and health care of people with disabilities. And from the social/human rights perspective that people with disabilities lead full lives. Get away from the notion that people with disabilities are by definition unhealthy, sick and need to be fixed that is so prevalent in health care. I was one of the people interviewed for this article in the American Public Health Association's publication, The Nation's Health. The CLL simulation training we do in partnership with the OUHSC Office of Interdisciplinary Programs-- SAME/FAME (Self-Advocates/Family Advocates as Medical Educators)-- and the ADHCE (Alliance for Disability in Health Care Education) Core Competencies get a shout out. #PublicHealth #Training #HealthcareEducation #ADHCE Carole Schwartz M.S., Gerontology, OTR Sarah Ailey

Executive Director at Metropolitan Center for Independent Living, Kellogg Fellow, Extensive Chief Executive Officer Leadership experience of many corporations. LinkedIn invited author on Leadership.
As Executive Director for Metropolitan Center for Independent Living, it is my honor to share with you a co-cover article I was asked to write for MINNESOTA PHYSICIAN, the Nov. 2023 journal edition. It is entitled "A Crisis in Home Health Direct Care - The Minnesota Solutions Model." Across the United States and in Minnesota, we are experiencing an urgent severe crisis in direct care Personal Care Assistant/Direct Support Professional services. This crisis is becoming the #1 civil rights issue for people with disabilities and older adults who rely upon direct care services and benefits for daily living. The article identifies the solutions as a way out of the crisis that will require The White House, Congress, the 50 states and all of us to work together. Let us be guided by the most noble value we hold as a society, namely to advance the ability of people to care for one another. https://lnkd.in/gJxz34d8

One in four Californians will be age 60 or older by 2030, with many requiring supports from care workers to meet their daily needs. At the same time, experts predict a shortage of between 600,000 to 3.2 million workers to provide this essential care. Jarmin C. Yeh, PhD, MPH, MSSW, associate professor, is leading a statewide project to equip California’s in-home supportive care workers with skills to provide quality care — and self-care strategies to thrive in a role that can be emotionally challenging.
