The demand from dog people to bring their dogs with them long distances is greatly outweighed by the viable solutions available today. So we built one ourselves. We believe in dog and human togetherness, and that it should not be limited by a lack of truly dog-friendly transportation. As a marketing agency, there's even MORE to love about how they launched it! While this venture may not seem like a logical step to most (how do you go from dog toys to an airline?!), there's a clearer path than you think... BARK's audience comprises of dog lovers who will do anything for their pets, including going to extra lengths to make sure they're comfortable during travel! 👏 This is a brilliant idea from BARK. Addresses a real emotional need for travelling pet owners in a market with no guilt free solution. I absolutely love it and think that the launch film experiment with CEO Matt Meeker in a crate for a flight takes CEO customer understanding and experience to a whole new level. The right level. 🤔 So many businesses don't think customer first enough. They create a product they think will work based, might do some vague audience segmentation, create some ads for it, run it through some forced research process and think they are good to go or established organisations run their businesses from the top, failing to walk the shop floor, engage with customers or potential customers and actually understand what it means to build a product people love. 🙌 Brand Fans is something a few of us talk about but not many understand or strive to create. Thinking of your potential customers as future fans of your business enables you to build an entirely different kind of relationship. One that is undoubtedly destined to be more successful. About 10 years ago at O2 (Telefónica UK) Gav Thompson and I created The Dog Phone prototype - a pet tracking device before these were a thing. It showed us how peoples' love of their pets and natural inclusion of them as family members proved a strong business case to create significant valuable products and services in this space. It will be really interesting to watch Bark take flight and I am sure that Bark's customer first product will have many happy customers, 4 legged and 2 combined 🐶 🐕 🐩 🌭 #innovation #brandfans #dogs

I am not impressed with innovative launches until my dog can fly with me. Today majority of the airlines balk at the idea of pet-travel. Most of them don’t allow pets inside the cabin, and a couple of airlines that do, well, check their absurd eligibility criteria. Bark Air mentions on their website, 'We have spent years talking to airlines about how to make flying with your dog more accessible, and because of their resistance, we decided to build the solution ourselves.' I love to travel with my dog Pluto (which is now limited to drivable locations), and out of frustration, I have possibly written to every airline, commented on every reel/post/article about air travel, picked fights, all to understand why pet air travel gets no attention. To me, this looks like a great opportunity. I know so many people who will not hesitate to pay a full ticket for their pets (BARK Air is charging $8000 for a one-way ticket for one dog and one person from New York to London). The kind of loyalty that a truly pet-friendly airline will attract seems pretty obvious to me. The only reason I found out was it can be an issue for fellow passengers. Given what human beings are doing to each other on planes these days, trust me, whatever a dog does will be an upgrade and there is always an alternative of dedicated pet-friendly flights. With the pet care industry entering a period of rapid growth, I am hoping something like what Bark Air is doing (watch their vision of what the future of pet travel should look like in the comments) will become an easily available and affordable option. Till then, drive with your pets, travel by trains, and leave them with trusted family members when you fly. If you are moving cities or countries and need to fly spend that money and book a chartered plane if you can afford it, your dog (if not cat) would have done that for you. If you can't then plan ahead and consider pet relocation services or specialized pet travel agencies that can assist with the process.
