We’re introducing MolPhenix: a foundation model that predicts a map of the effect of any molecule-concentration pair on phenotypic cell assays and cell morphology. Cell images are powerful tools for unravelling complex biological systems. Unlike traditional assays with single readouts, they capture rich, high-dimensional information about cellular function. With MolPhenix, we use contrastive ML to develop a novel multi-modal approach enabling us to learn a rich representation of how a molecule affects the cell’s morphology. This was powered by the petabytes of phenomics data generated from Recursion's automated labs. We’ll be sharing more about MolPhenix at NeurIPS. The combination of trapped ion mobility spectrometry (TIMS) with time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry allows researcher to obtain molecular shape and mass data, adding a fourth dimension to proteomics. This technology is key to discern similar yet not identical molecules with high biomedical relevance e.g., in immunopeptidomics. Back to the Future: NGS Edition 🧬🔬 Recently came across this timeline while searching for resources highlighting cytokine response pathways. It categorizes the evolution of #singlecell and #spatialtranscriptomics techniques. Though I’ve only been in the genomics space for a short time, I was genuinely surprised that modern era techniques actually started in the ‘80s — a couple years after Marty McFly and Doc Brown piloted the DeLorean. What’s exciting about this history lesson is the underlying principles of past/outdated tech can be applied to other #multiomics disciplines. Specifically, sample prep, data collection and analysis techniques. This landscape has seen exponential growth in the past 5 years. As new technologies, instruments, and analysis tools emerge, it will be exciting to participate in #NGS advancements, and break the glass ceiling by integrating more layers of multiomics.
