Last week, our team gathered to celebrate the 2024 Newbie’s Party—a cherished BCE tradition that's been going strong for over 30 years. Each year, the new hires from the previous year form a committee to plan and host a party for the office. This year, our Newbies brought the spirit of the Olympic Summer Games to our office, and colleagues tested their skills in a variety of fun games. Some of us even took home gold, silver, and bronze medals! Thanks, Newbies, for your efforts and an unforgettable event! 🏅 🎉

Through my journey so far, I was fortunate enough to work closely with colleagues on the same goals and personal growth. The disbalance between employee benefits was something I have struggled to bring to everyone in the team in the companies I've worked with. That is why I want to bring this to as many companies, with the goal of unified employee benefits across companies. #HR #HumanResources

In today’s SMH, is a valuable message to reflect on, when pursuing a talented person to join your team. It’s a message about how player Timo Werner felt, when he had a conversation with Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou, about joining Hotspurs. Namely, “A lot of things attracted me here - first of all the talk with the manager. It was a really good talk. He straight away gave me the feeling that I want when you talk to a manager, and also about tactics and style, how he wants to play, how he lets the team play. I thought straight away that it fits perfectly.” Here’s a question to ponder. Before your next recruiting conversation, with a first-rate person about joining your team, consider where you could improve, in giving the person the feeling they want, when they’re being recruited?

Last night, I finished the book “The Boys in the Boat“. The book is about how a group of young men, from the University of Washington, overcame tremendous odds, to go on to win the 1936 US Olympics in Berlin. What resonated with me, is the importance of finding & capitalizing on the strengths and opportunities with your crew in Your boat. When this is done “ you will feel the power at work… that is far beyond anything… ever imagined.” It was the diversity of the team, and how they capitalized on their diversity, that brought them to represent the US in the Olympics. The book describes “great crews are carefully balanced blends of people, where each teammate must adjust to the needs, and capabilities of others, in order to optimize the overall benefit of the boat. Capitalizing on a crew’s diversity is perhaps more important when it comes to the characters of each crew person. Good crews are good blends of personalities, someone to lead the charge, someone to hold something in reserve, someone to pick a fight and someone to make peace, someone to think things through, someone to charge ahead, without thinking, and individuals must recognize their place in the fabric of the crew, accept it, and accept the others as they are.” The book left me thinking about how am I capitalizing on the strengths and opportunities with the crew in my boat? It’s a great thought to start the new year!

For this month's Fourth Economy blog, I wrote about major sporting events, their economic impacts, and how cities can, with the right priorities, leverage these events to drive long-term investment and community prosperity. These events don't happen without negative externalities, though, and can swiftly become burdens for host communities, their budgets, and local constituents. I'm excited to head to the USMNT game vs Panama in Atlanta tonight and get an early look at how the city will fare with massive World Cup crowds in 2 years time! "This year’s Copa America is equal parts competition and trial-run. The big event, 2026’s FIFA World Cup jointly-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, looms ahead just two years from now. Host cities are already making short and long-term investments in their infrastructure to maximize the tournament’s economic impact, which is estimated at over $5b across the 3 countries." https://lnkd.in/gxDNFCPC
