Why not build on their existing infrastructure, even with manufacturing footprints, and utilize this as their base to supply the Indo-Pacific market, too? How about the importance of the Indian market itself? Considering the current growth rates of India's GDP, India might overtake Germany and Japan as the third-largest economy by 2030 or even earlier. It is only six years in the making. Chinese and Japanese companies are the ones to watch because they also have India on their radar screen. The big geopolitical game in Asia is not military but economic – and a massive economic ecosystem centered on China is evolving in the region." Singaporean Diplomat Kishore Mahbubani Though we appear to think we are, we are not even in the Geopolitical game in the Indo-Pacific. As the distinguished Singaporean Kishore Mahbubani bluntly states, the geopolitical game in the Indo-Pacific is for economic influence, not military coercion, which China is adeptly playing. Instead of competing with China from a first economic and second security strategy to preserve its 70-year domination of the Indo-Pacific, America has chosen to extend the limits on its credit card to reassert and expand on its Cold War Security Containment Strategy. We see this in the creation of the QUAD, which pretends it can bring together in alliance nations whose economic and security interests vary and sometimes contradict America's Indo-Pacific interests. Along the QUAD, we have rejuvenated Cold War security alliances. We do not see that as the major trading partner for all our Cold War Indo-Pacific alliances: Australia, Japan, the Philippines, and Korea. Thailand- is China, and America remains, on paper, at least, their security guarantor. America's policymakers believe the threat of force in the Indo-Pacific trumps opportunities to enhance prosperity. The challenge for America is to reimagine its Cold War alliances from simply a security focus appropriate to the Cold War to a new look at 21st-century alliance formations and partnerships that start with mutual economic interests, laced with necessary Security provisions, that end with mutual economic payoff. A geopolitical America First Interests vision in support of like-minded Allies and partners would be our starting point. Why is it not?

This UK-Ghana Diaspora Networking Mixer highlights one of the most important factors of #diasporaengagement.....it should be fun! Two other important lessons in this for diaspora diplomacy and diaspora engagement at large. 1. Both are about being world-class at #Networking. That is why we link our work at Global Diaspora Insights by being an advisor for The Networking Institute. It is the softer skills of diaspora work that we need to be working on much more. 2. The mixer is an example that diaspora diplomacy is not just for countries of origin. When you look at the economic impacts of the UK-Ghana relationship hinted at during this article from the arts, culture, entrepreneurship, tourism, and more - it is no surprise that the UK sees this as smart policy. SRP was present at a very entertaining panel discussion on the challenges of doing business in the changed China business environment. Peter Buytaert, Co-Founder and Exco member of SRP, presented a very balanced view on the challenges of China and also what it presented as continued opportunities. In a nutshell, nothing is easy any more in a new economic environment of China. The highway of growth became a slower cobblestone road. Yet, we cannot ignore the size and innovation power of this new dragon giant. Confronted with this change in geopolitics, we tend to protect ourselves and become rather fearful. This is reflected in current EU and US policies. Instead, we should at least explore this new reality and, without being naive, find ways of collaboration that will benefit all economies. It is clear that if a business aligns with the new high impact markets (e.g. biotech, AI, clean tech), the red carpet of investments in China is wide open and more than ever, incentives are available to support entry and expansion. Attending the 39th Ambassadors Meet organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry was an enlightening and enriching experience. As a participant, I had the opportunity to interact with distinguished ambassadors, diplomats, business leaders, and policymakers from various countries. Here's a reflection on the experience and some insights gained: #Global Perspective: One of the most significant takeaways from the event was gaining a global perspective on economic and diplomatic affairs. Interacting with ambassadors from different countries provided invaluable insights into their respective nations' economic policies, trade relations, and diplomatic priorities. It helped broaden my understanding of global dynamics and the interconnectedness of economies. #Networking Opportunities: The Ambassadors Meet offered an excellent platform for networking with key stakeholders in the international business community. Engaging in discussions and exchanging ideas with ambassadors, business leaders, and policymakers facilitated the establishment of new connections and potential collaborations. Building a robust network is crucial in today's interconnected world, and this event provided ample opportunities for that. Insights into #Bilateral Relations: The event shed light on bilateral relations between countries and the role of diplomacy in fostering economic cooperation. Hearing directly from ambassadors about the challenges and opportunities in enhancing trade relations between their respective countries and India provided valuable insights. Understanding the nuances of diplomatic negotiations and the factors influencing bilateral trade can be instrumental for businesses looking to expand globally. #Cultural Exchange: Beyond economic and diplomatic discussions, the event also facilitated cultural exchange among participants.
