What type of termites are there here in Central Florida? 🤔 There are 2 types you’re most likely to encounter - drywood and subterranean. While drywood termites swarm from the sky, subterranean termites invade from the ground up. ⬆️ #holderpestcontrol #pestcontrol #pestcontrolservice #termites #termitecontrol #familybusiness #residential #commercial #deland

Principal at StormTree® Sustainable stormwater management and green infrastructure design engineer and systems provider
It does rain in Southern California The stormwater manager for Chino Hills, California was kind enough to send me a side-by-side comparison of one of the StormTree tree filter systems that was originally installed in 2019, and in December on a rainy day. When it does rain, the sump within the tree filter collects the runoff and screens out the sand, leaves, and trash, while reducing nutrient, and then naturally infiltrates it to replenish the subsurface aquifer and/or conveys it to the subsurface infrastructure. The ADA compliant grate has a grit surface which reduces the slip factor for those who like to walk in the rain. #stormwatermanagement #landscapearchitecture #stormtree #landscapedesign #trees #urbanplanning #urbanlandscaping #cityinfrastructure #sustainablecities #treeroots #urbandesign #naturebasedsolutions

Cutting back the pumping in the Delta has not completely stopped the loss of steelhead, as last week’s LA Times article implied. Although the cutback in pumping has greatly ameliorated reverse flows and reduced the loss of protected steelhead, Old and Middle River are still being sucked backwards toward the pumps. Due to the reduction in pumping, the federal portion of San Luis Reservoir didn’t fill this week as expected, but the federal side of the reservoir is hovering just under 100% full and total storage is at 74% of capacity. Sharing some of nature’s bounty with the estuary’s native fish means the federal side of the reservoir might fill a week or two later than expected, and is a plus for not only steelhead, but also some water users who are still able to store recaptured San Joaquin River Restoration Flows. Steelhead monitoring in the San Joaquin River Restoration Program area upstream of the Merced River starts March 20th. https://lnkd.in/gYebuNdD

The Biden administration and the DOJ support the Bad River Band’s assertion that Enbridge is trespassing by continuing to operate the Line 5 pipeline on tribal lands. The DOJ acknowledged Enbridge's decade-long trespassing and suggested the company pay more than the court-ordered $5.15 million to the tribe, given its substantial earnings of over $1 billion during that period. However, they did not demand an immediate halt to the pipeline’s operation. In Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel oppose the operation of Line 5 in the Straits of Mackinac. However, Line 5 continues to convey oil despite an order by Whitmer to shut down the part of the pipeline running under the straits. Currently, the Michigan Attorney General’s attempt to shut down the Enbridge pipeline is caught up in a legal battle in the U.S. Court of Appeals about whether the case belongs under state or federal jurisdiction. The Western North Carolina Stream Initiative (WSI) program is a partnership between Resource Institute Inc. (RI) and the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) that seeks to complete stream enhancement and stabilization projects on agricultural lands in the western counties of North Carolina. Wildlands has helped to rank streams in the program through initial site assessment visits and is currently providing feasibility study, design, permitting, construction observation, and landowner coordination services to the streams identified. The streams selected for this program are experiencing erosion and migrating into valuable pasture or cropland. Projects are typically between 1,000 linear feet (LF) and 3,000 LF in length and range from 0.5 square mile to 74 square miles in drainage area. Since 2014, Wildlands has completed seven projects through construction, and is in various stages of design on an additional three projects. To date, Wildlands has been involved in over 17,000 LF of stream enhancement and restoration as part of this program. Featured in this photo is the WSI Webb’s Creek Site, located in Rutherford County, NC. This project involved approximately 1,150 LF of stream restoration, 35-ft riparian planted buffers, and cattle exclusion. #wildlandsengineering #resourceinstitute #streamrestoration #ecosystemrestoration #conservation #waterquality #westernnorthcarolina

There’s more to landscaping than making it look pretty. Our Landscaping team does the necessary work to ensure that the designs fit well with the client's needs, the surrounding area, and the health of the land. This includes things like erosion control, sediment control, stormwater management, and so much more. Follow along as we explain a little more about what we do and the people behind Powell Restoration. #Landscaping #LandRestoration #PowellRestoration #ErosionControl #StormwaterManagement

Exciting update from the field! We are utilizing sediment control techniques to construct Islands in the delta of Red River, aiding Mother Nature in forming islands in Netley Lake and reviving natural marshland at the river's mouth. My expertise was crucial in designing the fence for this project, with my team leading the installation. Stay tuned as we observe how it performs in the upcoming months. 🌿 Some fascinating facts about the area: - The Red River flows from Minnesota to Lake Winnipeg, eventually reaching Hudson Bay. - Lake Winnipeg ranks as the 11th largest lake globally in terms of surface area. - Over the past 90 years, human activities have deteriorated the marshland. - Witnessing nature's creation of a new delta, we are expediting the process using our innovative sediment control techniques. - All products used are 100% natural and biodegradable. A tributary to the New River in Ashe County North Carolina, Naked Creek flows for six miles originating just north of Jefferson, NC. The first mile of the streams passes tree farms with little riparian buffer and eventually through Jefferson. Despite Naked Creek’s proximity to residential and public land of high value, the stream is listed as “impaired” by the North Carolina Division of Water Quality. The impaired title is given to waters that are too polluted or degraded to meet water quality standards outlined in Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act. After a stream is reported as impaired, the water is prioritized and empirical management plans are developed. Shortly thereafter, the New River Conservancy (NRC) conducted a holistic stream restoration that reconnected the stream to its floodplain, daylighted four culverted sections, replanted the riparian zone and stabilized the streambanks. NRC restored approximately 4,873 linear feet of stream using Natural Stream Channel Design best management practices included sloping streambanks to connect the stream to its floodplain, daylighting four culverted streams, restoring riparian zones with over 9,080 native shrubs and trees, and stabilizing streambanks with in-stream rock and log structures. In-channel bar deposits were altered or removed to relieve the stress of high-energy flow against the banks. The stream profile was modified by installing cross vanes, rock vanes and boulder clusters. The project included restoring aquatic habitat by adding riffle/pool sequences for benthic macroinvertebrate and fish habitat, and it provided safe fishing and recreational stream access.
