Typically, the only person that thinks the organization is a family is the head of the household. I do believe that organizations can operate with a sense of 'family' but I cringe when I hear it represented as such; can we take care of each other? Yes. Can you have a familial bond with your colleagues, mentors and leadership? Of course. Are they people that you call upon when you are in dire straits? They might be. I have been in both camps. I have worked at a startup that all of us would have said we were family. In some cases, it was genetically true. But I think if any of my former colleagues read this, they would agree. I have also been in leadership roles where this was bandied about in meetings, and it made me squirm. In debriefs after town hall meetings, I would reassure the teams that we were not family, and I would never ask them to sacrifice anything personal for the good of the operation. To paraphrase Don Draper; 'That's what the money is for!' If I were to be honest, this sentiment would mean so much more if it came from the front lines of an organization, from the working class of a larger enterprise, from the down-line reaches of a multi-tiered org chart. It might be a bit of a hot take for a guy that wants to do more work across multiple industries through his own organization, but I'll never say we're a family. The most I can ever hope for is that your family and my family will benefit from what we do together, that we will all thrive, and that I can be a positive impact on your life in any way that I am able to deliver. And if there are hard times that befall either of us, we stay connected, and we do what we can to help each other, as fellow human beings. Not family.

This cliche has been spoken about a lot. But here’s one more note on it: If you own a company and want to communicate how great everyone is together, call yourself a “team” or a “community.” Those are perfectly fine descriptions. Most of all, they’re accurate and don’t give the wrong idea. “We’re a family here” = 🚩 “We’re a tight team” = Much better

Another successful event in the books! It's not just about the wins, it's about the journey, the teamwork, and the memories we create along the way. #CompanyCulture #TeamSpirit #GrowthMindset #TeamCelebration
What a blockbuster of a team-building event! 🎬✨ At Penbrothers, we don’t just work hard; we play hard too! Our entire company gathered at the cinema for an epic day of camaraderie. We kicked off with our CEO Nicolas Bivero’s action-packed presentation of last month’s stellar results, spotlighted our top performers, and then settled in for a thrilling screening of Deadpool & Wolverine. 🍿🦸♂️ In a world where remote work is the new normal, creating these moments is key to building stronger teams. 💪 Here’s to a team that goes the extra mile, never gives up, and knows how to have a laugh. 💙

"Team" or "Community" are the terms I prefer. Using the term "family" in a business setting can often result in manipulative behaviors. A Community can still care for eachother well, and work towards a common goal.

Sometimes, the best way to build a strong team is to step away from the work and have some laughs together. Our team games night was the perfect opportunity to do just that! We battled it out on the board, discovered new strengths and hidden talents! Most importantly, we strengthened the bonds that make us a cohesive unit. Here's to more game nights with a team that always knows how to work hard and play hard! Share your favourite stories of team bonding experiences in the comments! #TogetherWeAreBetter #RampsLogistics

When leaders possess emotional intelligence and work together as a team, they can create a strong and productive work environment. A team of emotionally intelligent leaders can communicate and collaborate effectively, understand and support the needs of their team members, and work towards a shared vision and goals. Leaders who possess emotional intelligence can also provide support and guidance to each other, and help each other manage and regulate their emotions in high-pressure situations. They can also lead by example, modeling the behavior they expect from their team members, and creating a positive and productive work culture. Overall, a team of emotionally intelligent leaders can be a powerful force, motivating and inspiring their team members to achieve success and driving their organization towards its goals.

Building a billion dollar b̶u̶s̶i̶n̶e̶s̶s̶ team. I've always been drawn to the process of building something from the ground up. There's a unique excitement in taking an idea, nurturing it, and watching it come to life. That passion has always driven me. But over time, I've developed another passion—building the right team to make it happen. This isn't one of those posts about how the product or idea doesn’t matter because it’s “all about the team.” The reality is, both matter. But my point is: you can build a 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦—even if, in the end, you don’t end up with a billion-dollar business. It's about the legacy of effort, collaboration, and innovation that we leave behind. The thrill of bringing ideas to life alongside a group of driven, talented individuals is what fuels me. The relationships, the skills, and the growth you cultivate with your team are priceless.
