Workforce housing in Oregon is a critical issue as the state continues to grapple with a shortage of affordable housing options for local workers. According to a recent report, nearly 1 in 3 Oregon households are considered cost-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30% of their income on housing. This has a significant impact on the workforce, as many workers are forced to commute long distances or live in overcrowded or substandard housing. To address this issue, policymakers and developers are exploring innovative solutions, such as mixed-income housing developments and employer-sponsored housing programs, to ensure that Oregon's essential workers have access to safe and affordable housing options. We started this initiative over two years ago to help increase access to affordable housing for Bend employees, and we are so excited to see things happening. No one should have to choose between a roof over their head and basic necessities in the city that never sleeps. Yet, skyrocketing housing costs are forcing too many New Yorkers onto the streets It’s time to recognize affordable housing as a HUMAN RIGHT, not a luxury. Here’s why: -Homelessness isn’t an individual failing, it’s a systemic issue. When minimum wage can’t cover rent, even a part-time job doesn’t guarantee stability. -Stable housing is the foundation for everything. Without it, accessing healthcare, education, and employment becomes incredibly difficult. -A city thrives on diversity, not displacement. Pushing out low-income residents weakens the very fabric of what makes New York special. What can YOU do? Raise your voice! Contact your elected officials and demand investments in affordable housing. Support organizations working to end homelessness and provide housing resources. Educate yourself & others! Share information and spark conversations about this critical issue. Together, we can build a city where everyone has a place to call home. #HousingJustice #EndHomelessnessNYC #NYCForAll P.S. Share this post to show your support and keep the conversation going!

There's a notable change in the current housing crisis as states nationwide are stepping forward to tackle the shortage of homes and the escalating costs driving families away from their neighborhoods. In a recent piece by Rachel Cohen for Vox titled "After decades of inaction, states are finally stepping up on housing," encouraging developments indicate a significant shift towards tangible solutions. From Oregon to Maryland, lawmakers are revising zoning regulations, streamlining construction procedures, and offering incentives to foster the creation of affordable housing. At Homes for America, we believe that affordable housing isn't merely an aspiration; it's a fundamental human entitlement. By advocating for policies that promote inclusivity and accessibility in housing, we're actively contributing to a future where everyone can find a place to call their own. It’s hard to admit, but Austin’s housing crisis is turning the city into a place many cannot live in. The heart of Austin is its people, but it's driving out the workers, teachers, and families who built this city. Every day, I see the toll that skyrocketing housing costs are taking on the people who make this city run. It affects the teachers, service workers, creatives, and builders who are this city's backbone. Yet, too many are forced to move farther away, sacrificing time, community, and stability to make ends meet. The solution isn’t simple, but it starts with a commitment to affordable housing that addresses the real needs of our city’s residents. One of our current projects is a development where 50% of the units are affordable housing. We’re also working on a safe house project for women in crisis, which will give them a place to start over with dignity and safety. This fight for affordable housing is personal for me. We can’t continue to push the people who build and serve our city out of it. Inclusion and affordability should be central to how we build our cities. This isn’t just a housing problem—it’s a community problem. And the solution has to be bold, inclusive, and immediate. #AffordableHousing #CommunitySolutions #Inclusivity #Leadership #Sixthriver

Does this portion of our population deserve new housing options? …legitimate question with serious long term economic implications, as this demographic makes up about half of the population. The obvious answer from most is a resounding “yes”, but exclusionary zoning policies & NIMBY’s are standing in the way, to name a few. With all the DEI initiatives, you’d think INCLUSIONAIRY HOUSING would make the list… No “silver bullet” exists, but subtle changes can have a big impact. Housing affordability is a top priority for Utahns and our administration. We’ve made strides to solve our housing crisis that should leave Utahns feeling optimistic including: ➡️ In the 2024 legislative session, we recommended, and the legislature funded, over $360 million for homelessness and attainable housing. ➡️ We created a path for low-cost modular housing to be permitted in factories to save time and cost, which will produce more places to live and less expensive housing options for our state. ➡️ We set an aggressive goal to build 35,000 new starter homes in the next five years utilizing new financing and zoning tools. This afternoon at the Utah Housing Matters Conference, we discussed the progress we've made and what more we can do to tackle our housing crisis and make homeownership an attainable goal.

One consistent theme across Michigan and the Nation is the need for more housing and the challenges to solving the gaps between housing affordability, supply, workforce shortages, material costs and regulatory costs and barriers that impede the development of new housing. Our focus at CIB Planning is simple when it comes to housing. Clear the barriers to implementation and craft policy that will support realization of true housing market potential within a community. That said, I want to give a shout out to our client community, Owosso, Michigan which recently adopted a new Zoning Ordinance that supports the goals of the Master Plan, protects public health, safety and welfare and prioritizes the housing needs of the community by allowing up to four attached residential units by right in all residentially zoned districts! This is a great example of recognizing community housing needs and aligning policy to address those needs.

For centuries, federal, state, and local governments fostered residential segregation. When used effectively, the Fair Housing Act’s Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) provision can reduce racial and gender wealth and homeownership gaps, increase the supply of quality accessible and affordable housing, improve educational, health, environmental, and other outcomes, increase economic opportunities, and benefit thousands of communities and millions of people. On the last day of Fair Housing Month, we once again urge the White House to release the final AFFH rule. https://lnkd.in/dhmSQPmE
