Excited to share the op-ed that Daphne Bond-Godfrey and I co-authored in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution titled "Intentionality is key to creating equitable opportunity within commercial real estate". In this article we touch on the importance of doing our part to shape the future of the built environment, work that directly aligns with the Urban Land Institute and Baker Tilly US’s commitments to DEI, stewardship and social impact. As we think about shaping the future our industry, its imperative that we commit to addressing the lack of diverse representation in commercial real estate. For me, two areas of focus are creating onramps for diverse talent into the industry, and identifying ways to democratize access to capital for diverse developers and asset managers. Every day, I am energized by the opportunity to lead the DevelUP platform, an extensive ecosystem comprising hundreds of multidisciplinary stakeholders from across the nation. Their shared commitment to enhancing our industry fuels our collective progress. I am deeply grateful for this journey and the inspiring change-makers I have encountered along the way. I am grateful for ULI Atlanta leadership - Daphne Bond-Godfrey, Amanda Rhein, and Tyrone Rachal, and DEI Committee co-chairs Keith Mack and Quinn Green, MBA for their vision, courage and commitment to this work, as well as my Baker Tilly colleagues Don Bernards, Todd Carpenter, Nuwandi Trahan, CPA, and Tracey B. Nguyen. The work is never finished, and I am excited to see all we accomplish together. #Atlanta #Economicdevelopment #ULI #DevelUP #Buildingequityfromthegroundup #collaboration #socialimpact #DEI #furthertogether #inclusiveleadership #talentdevelopment #accesstocapital

This issue marks a very special milestone for Our Place — it’s our 50th! So we’ve decided to turn the tables and interview Christopher Duffy, creative director of Our Place, as well as co-founder alongside wife Rachelle, about the journey of the magazine and the community that has made it what it is along the way. Here are some highlights: "C: It became evident that there were narratives waiting to be shared—stories that might otherwise remain undiscovered. Recognising this unique opportunity, we felt a compelling drive to establish a platform that could bring these narratives to light." "C: Our dedication to highlighting the endeavors of individuals, organisations, and groups making a positive impact in our community remains steadfast. However, it’s crucial that we remain adaptable in our approach to sharing these stories." "C: Yet, beyond these tangible markers, what truly fills us with gratitude and pride is the privilege we hold — the privilege to tell stories that matter." I'm thrilled to be attending the Creative Spirit US Gala on April 10 to show support for #RoadtoEquity. Were you aware that 2.2 billion people globally live with sight loss? Shockingly, only 0.26% of ads feature audio descriptions. The ongoing battle for inclusivity is crucial, beginning right at the core of your digital marketing strategies. How inclusive is your digital marketing strategy?
On April 10, Creative Spirit US will host our annual #RoadtoEquity gala at the NYSE, where we’ll ring the closing bell to support fair-wage employment for the neurodivergent community: https://lnkd.in/dsNhkXHx. Linking notions of value, professionalism, and worth to material goods like clothing is dangerous and harmful. I’ve made this observation in education, particularly as tied to class, race, and gender. Props to Russell J. Ledet, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A. for opening up this conversation in the healthcare space as well.
Physician-Scientist. Tillman Scholar. Health Disparities Advocate. Fortune 500 Keynote Speaker. Community Cultivator. ChangeMaker.
Why is he dressed like that? It’s a question I’ve been asked countless times as I walk into rooms, as I speak on stages, and as I sit across from patients. But here’s the thing — my authenticity is non-negotiable. I’m a Black man who just so happens to be a physician, and I make sure to bring my full self into every space I enter. Whether I’m rocking a hoodie, fresh kicks, or scrubs, fitted hat, my mission is to redefine what a doctor looks like, how they speak, and where they come from. Too often, we’re given a mold that we’re expected to fit into — not just in healthcare, but across professions. But why conform when you can transform? My presence, my voice, my attire, my intonation — they all serve as a daily reminder that the next generation of physicians won’t look, sound, or think like the last. And that’s not just okay; it’s exactly what we need. Shoutout to the The Indianapolis Foundation and Lorenzo L. Esters for their incredible leadership and vision in hosting an amazing event that truly reshapes the future of the Indianapolis Foundation. The unveiling of their new direction and strategic plan for the next five years is going to make waves in the city, particularly around mental health care, health equity, environmental equity, and economic equity with respect to accessible and affordable housing. It’s exciting to be part of a movement that prioritizes equity and shifts the narrative on what true community impact looks like. Representation matters. Authenticity matters. And when you bring your whole self to the table, it’s not about bending norms — it’s about expanding them. Let’s keep pushing the needle forward, together. #ForTheCulture #AuthenticMedicine #DiversityInMedicine #RepresentationMatters #EquityInAction

Chicago Commons' development team is doing a thing- a BIG thing! It's time to celebrate 130 years of transformative change in and around the city of Chicago. Join us on May 10th for our anniversary gala at Morgan Manufacturing as we honor those who support our mission as well as participants of Chicago Commons' programs who are doing the hard work of providing for the children, families, and seniors in their lives and building strong communities. We are "Honoring the Past and Building the Future." For tickets: https://lnkd.in/gEaj8hiF For fun, what else happened 130 years ago in 1894? 1. The Pullman Strike began. If you don't know the history of this one, please look it up. It's fascinating and very important to labor history. 2. The Tower Bridge in London opened to traffic. 3. Norman Rockwell and Jack Benny are born. 4. William Kennedy Dickson receives a patent for motion picture film in the United States. 5. An extreme national economic depression hit the US in 1894 leading to factories closing and mass unemployment and poverty. 6. Chicago Commons was founded on May 1 by Graham Taylor...but this isn't in Wikipedia's "1894" entry - although I can change that, I suppose.
Honoring the Past. Building the Future.
