Tuesdays are for Talent Development. I am amongst many others who have grown with TJX Canada. And, I can assure you that even after 21 years, I continue to aspire to move forward in my career. It is clear that we take internal growth seriously, infact talent development is part of our daily talk. I think the biggest misconception about talent development or growth is that it should come with a title change. If it is not a promotion, often it is not taken as growth nor development. One of my favorite author is Robin Sharma. His book, "The leader who had no title", is the perfect read on this subject. He reminds us that the title is temporary, but continuous growth, development and being your best self are more important than a title. Well, today, we spend the whole day with these leaders of my team. It was about showing up better every day, challenging each other while showing support and create an empowering culture. There aren’t many leaders that I respect more than Best Buy’s Senior Executive Vice President, Kamy Scarlett. She’s brilliant, fun, warm, supportive, and has a way to cut through BS without having to wear a rebellious Sons of Anarchy leather vest to do it. She leads with her authentic personality and embraces and celebrates the individual personalities of her team. Kamy knows that being a front-line associate in a retail environment is a tough gig with long hours, disrespectful customers, and tons of direction from head office. Beyond product knowledge, they have to know specials, offers, and have a photographic memory of the binder that outlines the 5000 guidelines that dictate everything from how to bag a box to 60-day return policies. Kamy’s plan was simple. She simply went to her frontline staff and told them to forget all of that. There was only one direction they needed to understand and to put into practice: “Be Amazing”. That’s it. Be amazing. Kamy hired her people based on beliefs and values and expected them to be amazing at their jobs but she tossed away the script and let them deliver “AMAZING” in their own authentic way. It’s simpler, it’s easier to commit to memory, and it’s way more fulfilling which creates a much better experience for the customers AND the staff. When you inspire your people to be amazing, they will be.

I am grateful for the opportunities l've had and the great people l've met along this journey. Recently, I spent time in Houston for a consultative selling course and learned valuable skills to assist my community and build partnerships across the Lowe's enterprise. (Thank you Dawn for the word) Here are a few key takeaways: 🔑Always prepare, no matter the length of the interaction. 🔑Embrace vulnerability and use it as an opportunity to grow. 🔑Be resilient, a "no" may just be a "not now," so ask for feedback and learn from it. 🔑Don't be afraid to ask close-ended questions. As someone who comes from a Leo background, this was a difficult one for me, but it can lead to great success.
