#MidweekMotivation 🎥🏀🎤 #BasketballLegends “The American Basketball Hall of Fame Foundation thanks the Ohio Media School and student interns for doing a great job helping to cover the induction ceremony in Rochester, MI.” Russell Johnson Ohio Media School would like to thank Russell Johnson for providing another excellent real-time internship opportunity to film and interview athletes and coaches being inducted into the 2024 American Basketball Hall of Fame in Rochester, Michigan. The value of this experience is immeasurable and the mentorship outstanding as our media interns hone their skills both in front and behind the camera and learn from a pro to be a pro. Intern Lead Aaron Silvers shared his experience - “Despite some setbacks, including our lead interviewer/producer sidelined due to sickness, our dedicated media team rallied to make everything happen. “A huge thanks to alum of the Sports Broadcasting Program, Benjamin Parsons, and Radio & TV Production Program student Charles Suggs for their crucial roles on the Red-Carpet at this Hall of Fame Induction. “Before heading out, I purchased a basketball for autographs and checked that all equipment was working well, for the next day. “While there were some technical challenges and last-minute battery issues, the interviews with legendary players and coaches went smoothly and without a hitch. The event was a great success, and provided us the real-time opportunity to capture memorable moments of recognition and achievement. “Each new experience provides our intern team the opportunity to grow in our craft and feel more confident in our skills, while adjusting to the fast pace and pressure of live entertainment. “I was proud to represent Ohio Media School and to head home with the signed basketball as a symbol of basketball legends' achievements as well as our own. “I will present the autographed basketball to Ohio Media School to represent the doors opened and networks built through the meaningful internship experiences presented to me. “I am proud to share this piece of history to inspire other students to also reach for their professional dreams.” Congratulations to the American Basketball Hall of Fame Foundation, and Russell Johnson, and thank you for providing this excellent experience for our future media All-Stars!! #learnfromaprotobeapro #internshipsmatter #SportsProduction #excellenceineducation John P. Executive Director, Business of Sports Program, Washington University in St. Louis | CEO, Sportsimpacts | CNBC and Marketscale Sports Business Contributor
Summer Placements...Sports Biz Program Olin Business School at Washington University With hopes still of reaching our record mark from Summer 2023 by June 1, happy to share that the Business of Sports program in the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis is now up to 28 students who have found either Summer 2024 internships or entry-level placements in sports and entertainment. As I review how these opportunities were sourced, 8 stemmed from direct emails to me from industry employers seeking talent, 6 were through TeamWork Online, 4 were through family/friends, 2 were through LinkedIn, 2 were through team websites, and the others didn't specify. That we have placed nearly 60 students in the last 2 summers across various sports industry internships and entry-level jobs is truly amazing, and makes me feel very lucky to play a mentorship role with such a talented and dynamic group of young people. 25 different companies...12 properties/teams, 9 agencies, 1 speedway, 1 tech company, and 2 "others". 8 companies we've placed students in the past, so 17 new companies we are engaging with this summer. And we have alumni connections at 8 of the 25 companies listed below. Connections, connections...and then more connections. That's the WashU way. The companies where WashU students will work this summer include DICK'S Sporting Goods (GameChanger program), Oak View Group, Milwaukee Bucks Inc., Wasserman, GSE Worldwide, SponsorUnited, TXV Partners, World Wide Technology Raceway, Philadelphia Eagles, Golden State Warriors, Paragon Marketing Group, Brooklyn Nets, WIT Sports, SportsManias, Elevate, Columbus Crew, Pittsburgh Penguins, York Rugby Club, Austin FC, Forward Madison FC, Milwaukee Brewers, Rank + Rally, Chicago Fire FC, Universal Music Group, Chicago Bears

Joseph Percival Allen University Professor of Economics and Director of Management Fellows at DePauw University
I love this! Jack Rutstein, one of our senior Management Fellows, was featured in The Wall Street Journal. In the immortal words of Calvin Coolidge (one of my favorite presidents): “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On!' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” ― Calvin Coolidge Jack Rutstein embodies this characteristic. Such grit and determination are the lifeblood of success and the central focus of our business program at DePauw University, e.g., Jon Phillips will touch on this topic this Thursday in our capstone course - see you there, Jack! Resiliency is all too rare. Too few accept the challenge of forging their own path. Jack, I am proud of you and your resiliency. I can't wait to see you blaze your path. #depauw #resilience #persistence
My past, present, and future plans were all well-represented in the The Wall Street Journal this morning. Four years at DePauw University including my semester-long internship at Pacers Sports & Entertainment, and my recent summer internship that led to a post-graduate role at Paradox. A special nod to Lindsay Ellis for creating the wonderful thinkpiece which features other like-minded college seniors who also networked their way to a new heights. Additionally, thanks to Lauren K. who was also quoted, representing the Paradox enzo well. The full article can be seen here: https://lnkd.in/didnRA-K

🏈 I help sports orgs hire 🏈 Partnerships at TeamWork Online | Business Development | Talent Acquisition | Sports Tech | 3 Years College Athletics - BYU Football
BYU Pre-Business Students For those of you that did not get accepted into the program that you applied for: It’s okay! Rejection is redirection (credit Jonathan Javier💡) I applied to three BYU Marriott school programs when I was at the Y. I was waitlisted for two, but ultimately denied by all three programs. Then… I moved across the country to study Sport Management at North Carolina State University. Being in North Carolina led directly to the opportunity to work for TeamWork Online! The plan we have for ourselves often does not work out the way we thought it would. More important than your major, internships determine your job placement, post-graduation. Adapt to the changes and know that if you keep working, it’s all going to work out eventually. What internships are you looking for? P.S. Did you end up working in the same field as your degree? Meet Murphy Alum, Quinnyata Bellows from the North Shore Country Day School Class of 2015. During her time at DMSF, Quinnyata participated in Affinity Groups and held a Walgreens Corporate Internship. Today, she works as a freelance producer and costume manager. Let’s hear what advice she has to share! 💙What was DMSF’s impact on you? 💛I learned that staying connected with my community and creating connections that last a life time can benefit me more than any fleeting moments. The people I have met through Daniel Murphy have influenced me in a number of ways. So many doors have opened for me that I never thought I would have access to because of volunteers and staff that have reached out to me during and after my scholarship program. It would be an understatement to say that I have gained a number of mentors that have paved a way for someone like me to flourish in the arts and make a career out of something that was just my passion and curiosity at the time. 💙Why was receiving a good education so important to you? 💛The older I get the more impactful my education history has been for me. With every decision I make, the skills and ability to navigate through society were just basic lessons taught to me through programming and courses dedicated to ensuring my success in the past. I may not have fully understood the weight of an amazing education in my teenage years but seeing how things could have been more troubling for me now makes me all the more grateful for the opportunities I had. This ever changing appreciation for my education is what makes it so important. 💙What advice do you have for current Murphy Scholars? 💛Take advantage of everything. This seems like a simple task but I think at a young age it’s easy to look past the small details but every thing that comes your way is a potential door that can opened and explored. Whether that is introducing yourself to someone new or being the first to volunteer, there is absolutely nothing unavailable to you unless you believe it. Thank you for being an inspiration, Quinnyata! #35YearsOfMurphyScholars #AlumniThen&Now #HighSchoolScholarship #EducationAccess

One of our interns last year asked me a good question: what bad habit did you overcome that helped you most professionally? Frankly, it was hard to choose! Learning from mistakes has become somewhat of a specialty. But the first bad habit that came to mind was this: Worrying. Usually starting around 2am. I do that much less now. In fact, hardly ever. Thankfully, someone a while back enlightened me to the phrase “worrying makes you suffer twice” – and that clicked. Work hard, sure. Do your best, of course. Seek help when needed, absolutely! But if you’ve done all that, worrying isn’t going to get you extra credit. Especially in the middle of the night. There’s more than enough to puzzle out during daylight hours, so give yourself some grace and save 2am for sleep. As we welcome this year's summer interns, I want to be prepared with some other good answers. What bad habit have you dropped over the years? Leave me a comment 👇
