❔ Why create an ai app for people with #celiac disease? I was 8 years old when I was diagnosed with celiac disease. It took nearly 5 years to get an accurate diagnosis. I was malnourished, small for my age (size of a toddler), and my parents were losing hope that I would have a chance at a thriving future. ✅ Facts: Nearly 1% of the American population has celiac disease, yet 83% go misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. It takes an average of 6-10 years to get an accurate diagnosis. 😢 ⏩FFWD at 15yrs old I founded the nonprofit TLC, Teens Living with Celiac to raise awareness and advocate for a very overlooked market within the celiac community ⏩FFWD 14yrs later 📆 - I am changing the way individuals with celiac disease get access to reliable and accurate information using AI and a lot of fine-tuning to ensure accuracy. The goal no celiac or non-celiac gluten sensitive person worldwide should feel disempowered when eating out, eating at home, and travelling. No more downloading translation cards, no more googling and reading through blog post after blog post just to know if a restaurant serves gluten free food. Save time. effort. and hopefully, with the right funding strategy - money! P.S. Gluten-free foods can cost nearly 50% more than your avg item. cc: buildspace Farza Majeed #buildspace #s5 #mywhy Sources: (Source: Daniel Leffler, MD, MS, The Celiac Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center)

First edition of my new newsletter, the Prototype, has just dropped! In it, I take a look at: 👩🔬 Holoclara Inc, a company founded by Andrea Choe, which is exploring whether secretions from parasitic worms could be used to treat autoimmune disease, based on a hypothesis that allergies, asthma and other similar diseases might be on the rise because these worms are no longer part of our microbiome. 💉 The basic research that led to the development of GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Zepbound. Three researchers behind this science were honored with the Lasker Award this year. 🚀 SpaceX's next launch, which will bring two astronauts to the ISS and four of them home next spring. Plus: Making chemicals out of thin air, why homework is good for your kids, the TV show Babylon 5, and more! Check it out.

This milestone study published in Nature on life-threatening infections has provided invaluable insights and demonstrated the safety and efficacy of personalized phage therapy as a promising strategy to battle difficult-to-treat infections. • Retrospective analysis of 100 consecutive cases, facilitated by a Belgian consortium across 35 hospitals, 29 cities, and 12 countries • Clinical Improvement: 77.2% of infections showed clinical improvement • Bacterial Eradication: Targeted bacteria were eradicated in 61.3% of cases • Combination Therapy: Therapy was more effective with antibiotics, showing a 70% lower eradication rate without their use • Tailored Treatment: Susceptibility tests ensured the chosen phages were effective against the specific bacterial pathogens infecting each patient Congratulations to Jean-Paul Pirnay and Sarah Djebara of the Queen Astrid Military Hospital in Belgium, and the entire collaborating team for their exceptional work in highlighting the power of personalized phage therapy! #phage #phagetherapy #antibioticresistance #infectiousdiseases #AMR https://lnkd.in/e8ixuFq7

Today we celebrate World Celiac Day, an important occasion to reflect on advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of this condition. 🇮🇹 In Italy, we take pride in being at the forefront thanks to the new law implementing screening for celiac disease across the pediatric population. ⚖️ The recent Italian legislation has been recognized as a significant step towards promoting public health. In this innovative light, IVY Diagnostics offers advanced solutions for rapid diagnosis, including the Biocard™ Celiac Test: https://lnkd.in/dB_JKM65 This lateral flow immunochromatographic test provides a qualitative assessment of anti-tissue transglutaminase IgA antibodies in just 10 minutes, with only a drop of blood from the fingertip. Additionally, the professional version of the test includes a system for measuring total IgA, thus reducing the risk of false negatives due to IgA deficiency. We are excited to be part of this progress towards swifter and more accurate diagnosis of celiac disease, contributing to improving the quality of life for those living with this condition. #WorldCeliacDay #RapidDiagnosis #ItalianLaw #IVYDiagnostics #Coeliac (photo credit to Association of European Coeliac Societies )
