As part of National Reconciliation Week, the Winslow Group has launched its online Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Appreciation training. Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. As Australians, we can all be proud to be the home of one of the oldest continuous civilisations on Earth, extending back more than 65,000 years. Our Cultural Appreciation training course aims to increase employees’ awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture. Cultural awareness is a first step towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competency, which refers to an ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. The focus of our training is to provide background and context, and then to move into appropriate behaviour from Winslow employees. Each person at Winslow is empowered to make good decisions to look after each other as family, be accountable to each other and be committed to operating safely. NWIAA's Hip Hop Producers and U.S. Veterans are actively involved in community contributions, aligning with the National Women In Ag. Association's mission of cultivating character, health, and income from the ground up. Teaming up with the National Men in Ag. and Women in Ag. Associations, they support new farmers through mentoring and giving back. Emphasizing values from age 6, NWIAA aims to foster responsible citizens and farmers, breaking generational barriers with classes focusing on leadership, integrity, and community service. Led by African American college graduates, corporate women, and farming business leaders, NWIAA is dedicated to creating positive changes for present and future generations. Goal of this Innovative Agriculture Class: 1) To change mindsets to a community-driven focus; 2) To educate and inspire all ages to grow, purchase, and eat locally grown foods; 3) To teach how to become involved in USDA programs; and 4) To break generational curses of poverty.

I’m the shameless nonprofit fundraising guy so I’m going to be blunt: Movements need money. Messages of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community after the recent protests and bomb threats over Lancaster Pride's drag story time are great to see and give me hope for the world! But, Lancaster Pride’s work to raise visibility, acceptance, and equality for the LGBTQ+ community doesn't happen without money. Hosting events and running nonprofits isn’t free. Luckily for all the folks who have expressed their support of Lancaster Pride, there are ways to be a part of this movement through sponsorship opportunities for the Lancaster Pride Festival (June 15 at the Lancaster County Convention Center by the way) for as low as $250 and as high as $15,000. I’m going to be blunt again. You and your company likely spend way more than $250 on things you barely care about, such as staff lunches, a new coffee machine, and random promo items. While all of these expenses matter, I hope you don’t say that you are part of a lunch, coffee, or tchotchke movement for a loving community. If you truly believe in the work Lancaster Pride is doing and are able, it’s time to support their amazing work with money. Yes, you will have less money going towards your bottom line and may have to cut back on other things, but consider the alternative. If we all keep putting money towards the same things we’ve always had, things are never going to change. People will still express hate and LGBTQ+ folks will still feel like they don’t belong. And we don't have time to waste. One LGBTQ+ individual attempts suicide every 45 seconds, not because of any fault of their own, but because of the hateful messages and treatment they get almost every single day. However, if we start putting our money towards movements like Lancaster Pride, maybe, just maybe, we will find ourselves in a world where people can be their authentic selves without fear of violence or hate. I volunteer to help raise money for Lancaster Pride because I have experienced how they are making a loving and caring community and will work with my team at Maneval Consulting to make sure we support them financially. Dear person who has read this far, please join me in sponsoring Lancaster Pride this year because last weekend showed us that we have so far to go to create a world where everyone feels welcome and loved. You can be why we see messages of support for the LGBTQ+ community, not after traumatizing and tragic events, but after inspiring celebrations of diversity.

How long have you been a member: Since June 2022 What is the most appealing part of membership / most appealing benefit to you: Having joined I became more aware of the IoD training opportunities. I personally enrolled on the IoD Accelerated Certificate in 2023 gaining insightful and eye opening Governance knowledge, Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards. The training and qualification has in turn provided recognition and credibility due to the status of IoD. Along with the options to access research and publications the IoD offers various avenues that are is supportive and applicable to anyone’s career at any given time in a style to suit them personally. I was not aware of the IoD prior and its only due to movement, reach, communication that changed. The fact there is now on island training opportunities is fantastic.
