Congratulations to Winslow Infrastructure’s Maddison Mc who was the winner of the ‘Tradesperson or Apprentice Award’ at the 2024 NAWIC Victoria Awards for Excellence at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne last Friday. Maddison, who was inspired by her father Mick's career in construction, began an apprenticeship at Winslow where she has been developing her skills. “My dad (pictured) has worked in construction for many years and he inspired me to seek a career in construction,” she said. “The close community and friendly workspaces I had heard about is what really appealed to me.” Maddison is completing her Certificate III in Construction at National Skills Institute and has plans to do Spotters training and to gain more experience operating plant machinery. After completing her apprenticeship Maddison has set her sights on becoming a Supervisor. “Our commitment to supporting diversity in our business and the construction industry is critical to our success and we are proud to continue to promote females and their achievements,” said Winslow Infrastructure General Manager Leonard Bam. Winslow was a proud Bronze Sponsor of the NAWIC Awards. Winslow is determined to provide opportunities by investing in our people. The Winslow Way is to embrace lifelong learning, striving to pick up new skills and deepen capability over time, so we as a group can continue to outperform our competition and overdeliver for our clients. Jacinta, Winslow Queensland’s newest Supervisor, began working in construction 15 years ago after working in farming where she operated machinery. She says this provided her with a solid foundation for a career in civil. Jacinta was recently promoted to Supervisor on a major transport infrastructure project in South East Queensland, where Winslow is performing early works. She said when she started working at Winslow, there were only three women in the field. “Now, we have women working on nearly all our projects, and I’m happy to have been a part of that change,” she said. Congratulations Maddison McCallum from Winslow Infrastructure / 215 Princes Highway, Beaconsfield KAPITOL GROUP TRADESPERSON OR APPRENTICE AWARD Inspired by her father’s dedication to the industry, Maddison decided to pursue a career in construction but is determined to establish her own identity. Maddison’s journey began with an apprenticeship at Winslow Infrastructure, on the 215 Princes Highway, Beaconsfield project. Maddison’s supervisor on the project, Mathew Youle, mentored her, encouraging critical thinking and forethought in her work, and empowering her to make decisions on the ground. Coincidentally, Maddison now works alongside her father onsite, providing her with an opportunity to learn from him firsthand. During her time on the project, Maddison was tasked with building a Centre Median, a task that pushed her to be solution-oriented, flexible, and adaptable. Her innovative solutions often exceeded those of engineers on the same project, showcasing her problem-solving skills. Maddison’s primary goal is to finish her apprenticeship and become a Supervisor. She is making swift progress in her apprenticeship at the National Skills Institute, aiming to complete the demanding 3-year course ahead of schedule. Maddison is committed to the quality of her work and learning, earning her a nomination for the ’Apprentice of the Year’ award. With her clear vision and commitment, Maddison’s journey in the construction industry is marked by ambition and determination. An amazing achievement! Congratulations Maddison! #womeninconstruction #NAWIC #NAWICVIC #NAWICAwards2024 #countherin

Winslow recognises our social responsibilities as being fundamental to our long-term sustainability and growth. We work closely with the community on reducing the impact of our works and physical footprint. In Byron Bay, Winslow NSW is working with Arakwal Native Title on the Sandhills Wetland Project. Due to the high cultural significance of the area, there are a group of Arakwal site officers that monitor the site to ensure any Aboriginal cultural heritage is protected. These site officers have been utilising a sieving machine to comb through the soil for any potential artefacts. Winslow will continue to work alongside Arakwal Native Title for the duration of the project, maintaining a strong and respectful relationship. Winslow Constructors’ West Region team has been busy working with YourLand Developments to transform a former quarry located on the Maribyrnong River, into a residential estate. The team has been onsite at River Valley Estate in Sunshine North for the past five years completing stages 7A through to 7C and is now working on 7D. The estate lies on a steep embankment requiring complex earthworks, retaining walls and interface with the river. More than 250,000m3 of cut has been completed, with some areas requiring a cut of up to 12m. There has also been about 230,000m3 of fill placed to a depth of up to 13m, particularly in the 7D park at the interface with the existing quarry wall. Working alongside developer YourLand, and its design team CJ Arms and Douglas Partners, our team has been able to repurpose site-generated materials to construct rock-faced, earth-reinforced retaining walls, which have significant environmental benefits when compared to conventional concrete retaining walls. Winslow was a proud gold sponsor of the 2024 Lismore Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout Carnival last month. More than 7500 people attended the annual three-day long event in Lismore, Northern NSW, with an additional 90,000 viewers streaming the event online. The Lismore Knockout provides a valuable space for Aboriginal communities across NSW to connect. This year, 20 men's teams, nine women's teams and two Under-17s teams gathered to compete. Lismore City Council described it as a "vital part of Lismore's cultural and sporting landscape". The event boosts the local economy with a weekend of entertainment and importantly, a great sense of belonging and community for everyone who played and attended. #Winslow #WinslowNSW #TheWinslowWay #community #Indigenous

Today is World Mental Health Day, which Winslow is commemorating with the launch of ‘The Road To Positive Mental Health – Building Strong Connections’, a document that highlights our dedication to support our employees. This document highlights the approach and ongoing initiatives Winslow has in place to encourage positive mental health for our employees and their families. World Mental Health Day raises awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilise efforts in support of mental health. Winslow is a leader in mental health support in civil construction and we continue to be committed to raising the awareness and understanding of the benefits of positive mental health through our integrated inhouse employee engagement initiatives and Health Safety Environment (HSE) initiatives. We have always recognised the need to support our construction workforce to feel safe and comfortable about reaching out and talking about mental health issues with recognised agencies, support persons or each other. Drake Workwise, our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider, is a free support service to all Winslow employees and their families. We developed our bespoke Chat & Check-in initiative as an ongoing message to look out for each other regularly or with one of our qualified mental health champions, who are recognisable by their distinctive TradeMutt shirts. We are determined for our employees to be in a state of wellbeing where they feel good, function well and cope with the normal stresses of life. It’s the Winslow Way. Winslow is determined to make the Communities we work in a better place. In a milestone event for Winslow, our South Australia team recently completed its first project after construction began in February. The Constructors team completed the 19-lot Stage 1 of Air at Strathalbyn estate, situated 55km southeast of Adelaide. Construction partner Wel.Co is developing the 108-lot subdivision adjacent the Angas River, which has required bulk earthworks, sewer, stormwater, water, electrical, and communication infrastructure, along with new roads and footpaths to serve the new community.
