I have a story to share with you about the incident that happened on this Women's Day in my office. . . . Unfortunately, on Women's Day, it was a weekend here. As I was fully engaged with family and friends, I couldn't get into the pool of creative writing on LinkedIn this time. As our creative head suggested, I wrote 2 content for International Women's Day based on gender-social-financial-poltical inequalities women suffering. Option 1: SORRY! We cannot create a poster of a weak or a strong woman Consider her as a human #womenisalsoahuman Option 2 : Often WOMEN is the topic. Wait, Isn't they still just a topic? Women deserve all rights and opportunities not for the reason they are strong, weak, or for any other labels. But as a human being. As I always do, I shared it with the WhatsApp group and asked my colleagues to share their feedback. To my surprise, at the very next moment, our digital marketing manager opined that the first option looked aggressive. And the other guy said both are a little controversial. and at last, our General Manager asked me to polish it with some other words and to avoid the word 'Consider', as there are no such circumstances as 'not considering' a woman as a human in this age. Finally, I wrote ''SORRY! We cannot create a poster of a strong or a weak women They belong to us. Human Beings! #equalrights #equalopportunities . . Both men and women are involved in the making of content and successfully make it better with no chances of political incorrectness. Happy Women's Day! I woke up this morning and wished the most amazing woman in my life-my mother-in-law before drowning in the sea of WhatsApp women's day messages. And I realised, I want to include everyone in this celebration and this conversation- not just women. Of course, in talking about emancipation of women, the challenges faced, the wins, the anguish, we can't do it in isolation. Think of it like a physics problem- any definition of a system always includes the effects of external, unbalanced forces The external forces can change the way a system functions—make it or break it. Like a bridge that vibrates with its own internal frequency.. But if you have soldiers marching across the bridge and the frequencies add up, the bridge can collapse. Or, if the soldiers break up their march, the bridge remains intact. Let's invite our allies - male, female, whatever gender you might identify with. To have an inclusive conversation to address systemic problems. To start that off, I wish you A Happy Day. ❤️ PS- I do not detract from the problems women face- the gender gap, the sexual harassment, discrimination, survival and so many other problems from before even being born. I just aim to bring more people into the conversation. #iwd2024

The movement tries to defy and break the shackles of gender.It is the right of the women to have equal opportunities and they demand nothing out of benevolence. The virtual federation is trying to bring about a change in the usual mindset of people within the locale.The attempt is to start the change from one's locality and giving it a global structure in the coming years.

10 hours left until my poll from last Monday closes. Interesting isn’t it? I also posted the same poll in one of my women’s groups on WhatsApp and the result there was: 92% for All of the above, 8% for Equal opportunities for all. Compared to the results here on LinkedIn, 72% for All of the above, and 28% for Voice in Decision-making. My thoughts on these results are: • for an all-women group, (preaching to the choir), there’s an added emphasis for Equal opportunities for all. There are retired corporate and civil servants in this group and I have heard for years that there are indeed UNequal opportunities at work for women. Highlighting for MORE Equality, and I would say Equity too, was unsurprising to me. • for a mixed group in LinkedIn, hearing an emphasis for a greater Voice in Decision-making makes me think - is it a matter of courage, of boldness, of fear, that doesn’t allow us to have the voice we need for Decision-making? Or, is it still the issue of patriarchy? (Sensitive issue with my son who has a good argument for countering his sister’s stand against patriarchy. I love listening to both of them!) What are your thoughts on these results? Mine : still so much to be done for #womenempowerment !

I went to a tech mixer last night. It doesn’t matter which one, what stuck out to me was that there were significantly more men than women. This wouldn’t be the first time but I sure hope one of these days it’ll be the last time and I’ll walk into a room where I feel equally represented. Although it’s great for women to network with other women, I’m of the opinion women-only events are not the solution. Part of the problem is the absence of information, such as career advice or practical skills in growing a business. A lot of women (including me) don’t even know what we don’t know! How can you help? - Actively connect and engage with women on LinkedIn - If you’re part of a WhatsApp group for founders, invite women to join in on the conversation - If you hear about an event, share details and encourage females in your network to join Gender inequality is not a woman’s problem, it’s a social problem. We need events where men and women are listening, collaborating and learning. The more we interact, the more we will understand and accept each other as equals. You can’t be what you can’t see. (My current read, a brilliant portrayal of female history through objects!)

Happy Friday! A topic that came up on my Senior Women in Marketing What's App group this week was about the gender pay gap and more specifically, how you can negotiate a better salary for yourself - either when going for a new job or getting a pay review in your current business. Lots of brilliant stories were shared by the group on how they had done this, but if I just share the top two tips I gave to them it would be: 1) Do your research to go armed with as much info as you can about what your market value is at the moment. Whether this is from recruitment agencies, checking out job adverts online that are at your level, asking friends/colleagues (if you have that relationship) - get an idea of where you should be pitching yourself so you have some data to back it up. 2) Know what your number is that you're asking for and say it! A senior HR person in a global client of ours gave an interesting anecdote about her general experience about having pay chats with men vs women over the years. The trend she had noticed was that if she asked a man what his salary expectations were, he would give a clear number and stop talking. The woman would be more likely to give a range, with her ideal number at the top and then be almost apologetic about it and open the door to there being flexibility. Today, I woke up to heartfelt messages from many male gender on my WhatsApp, expressing their concern about how the boy child receives little or no attention. This agitation was brought about as a result of the post I made yesterday.( Check my timeline to catch a glimpse) Same write-up was also posted on my WhatsApp Statuse. One of them said "Only a few NGOs caters for the needs of boys, most of them focus on girls" Their message resonated deeply with me. This is me voicing their concerns and adding my voice to theirs to amplify the message. Let's give the boy child the attention he deserves. They need it now more than ever. I am calling on NGOs, International Organizations, Media, Parents, Educators and other stakeholders to pay attention to the boy child as well. As the navigate through life, they also needs our attention and guidance, they should not be left alone. I promised to give updates about my experience as a UN Women UK delegate so far at #csw68 ... Too be honest, it is a bit mixed (and the app to navigate it does not help, my little Chief whatsapp group does). The number of events & topics is overwhelming. We are all quite busy and it is hard to fit them in next to your work and personal live due to short notice. It is also a little hit an miss (pending which session it is) but let's focus on the positive. 2 nights ago I was watching one of the late night talks and my 6 year old came to join me. We had a chat about the UN (I had to pause it as it was not a talk appropriate for her age) and why I try to be involved and she said: "it's good you do important stuff". (She thinks I get paid to sit behind a computer talking to people as that's her view on running a business, lol). There are also very serious discussions about challenges and how we can overcome them, making life better for women around the world, and working towards peace where there is conflict. The sessions that have explored women's strength and potential as entrepreneurs have resonated with me. Another fascinating topic is women's health. One I might share more about later (sharing a more personal story, still debating too be honest ...). Dame Lesley Regan shared 'I would like to live as well as I can for as long as I can... but that's not likely for many of us the way we treat women's health.' There is so much more to navigate and it is impossible to be involved in all. As they said in the beginning, even the little bits help so let's focus on that. #investinwomen
