Social Media - Community Manager | Public Speaker | I help Corporate Brands, and teach Individuals to Leverage VISIBILITY & GROWTH, on Social Media for Increased REVENUE | Convener - Linkedln Local UNN
Yesterday, I was looking through the registration form for LinkedIn Local UNN and realized we had over 700 individuals registered for the event. About 300 showed up physically, and others virtually. Let me take you a bit down memory lane. When this project came to my heart, it was in July during cohort 14 of the #20daylinkedinchallengewithhaoma It was just a thought. “Oh you have been dreaming of attending a LinkedIn Local event, why not host one,” I thought. A few minutes later, I started going through all my connections from UNN, and I realized most of them had one thing in common. An unoptimized profile. It felt like they wanted to make the effort to grow, but they didn’t know what to do. I went ahead to share this with my friend Dawn Kene-Okafor (who became the cohost), and she was my first driving force to do it. Oh, that’s not how it ends. Doubt set in. After basking in the euphoria of wanting to do something this beautiful, I started to have doubts. Who will attend? Who will speak? How will it fly? Where will the money come from? Guess what? I packed up this dream. I didn’t talk much about it anymore, I was too uncertain and decided not to do it altogether. Until one morning at 5 am on the 10th of August, my pastor mentioned and prayed for events. He said someone was planning to do something big and was worrying, but God had taken charge. That was the fire I needed in my bones. I took that word and ran with it. This testimony brings tears to my eyes because the journey wasn’t easy. The first day I put up the announcement, I cried. I felt like an imposter. I know this is a long read, but this experience and milestone taught me several lessons. The first is to dream it. If you can see it and believe God, then it is possible. All along I kept saying, “This event is a success". Even when we had only 30k a few weeks before the event. Another thing I learned is to have a beautiful circle. I like to call my team THE POWER TEAM because it never would have been possible without them. I’ll stop here because I know this has been such a long read, but this is to say that God is Faithful. You see those dreams you have packed and packed with several excuses? It is time to unpack them. Go tirelessly, fail, fall, cry, and stand up. The blessing is in doing. This event is my biggest career accomplishment, and I’m so proud of the outcome. I’d love to hear all about yours too. ♻️ Share this with someone who needs to see it. #20daylinkedinchallengewithhaoma #linkedingrowth #linkedinforcreators #becoming #linkedinlocal #linkedinevents Haoma Worgwu #socialmediamanager #socialmediamanagement

"Being annoying is better than being forgotten" - Stephen Balaban This was one of the many lessons I learned during my time at the 1517 summit in Toronto. In case if you didn't know, this was my first time networking at an event. Honestly, it was kind of intimidating since I didn't really know how to talk to people I don't know. However, this was still a major experience for me so here's a few of the things I learned: 1. Don't hesitate when talking to people: If you want to seem natural and not awkward, you must approach the person with confidence and not hesitate. 2. Have an open body language: If you want to appear approachable, then you need to adopt this type of body language. Don't cross your arms, smile, and appear comfortable and confident. 3. It's better to be annoying than forgotten: I learned this during one of the talks there. If you're trying to contact someone (i.e. a mentor, expert, etc.) then the main goal is to be remembered, that will make it more likely for them to respond. A big thanks to the 1517 Fund and the community for making such an amazing event! 😀 🚀
