Today is World Mangrove Day, This year's theme is - “raising awareness about mangroves and their importance as self-sustaining ecosystems.” Am here just for that ☺️ Mangroves are a group of trees and shrubs that live in the coastal intertidal zone 👉🏾In Tanzania, Mangroves are found along the coasts of the three major islands of Unguja (Zanzibar), Pemba, and Mafia covering an area of 158,000. The Rufiji estuary of Tanzania is one of the two largest mangrove areas in the East African region. 👉🏾The Sundarbans Reserve Forest (SRF), located in the south-west of Bangladesh is the largest contiguous mangrove forest in the world. These are interesting facts about mangrove forests you should know and why they deserve our attention 👉🏾Mangroves act as natural cost protection against storm surges, tsunamis, and coastal erosion. Their dense root systems stabilize shorelines and protect coastal communities from extreme weather events. 👉🏾They serve as biodiversity hotspots and are home to a rich diversity of species, including fish, crabs, birds, and other wildlife. They provide critical nursery habitats for many marine species, supporting vibrant and healthy ecosystems. 👉🏾Mangroves are powerful carbon sinks, sequestering carbon dioxide at a rate up to four times greater than terrestrial forests. Protecting and restoring mangroves is among the key strategies in the fight against climate change. Also, the roots help in filtering pollutants hence improving water quality 📌Not to mention millions of people around the world depend on Mangrove's ecosystem for their livelihood in fisheries, tourism, and other economic activities. https://lnkd.in/eWFsce4w https://www.tfs.go.tz #WorldMangroveDay #Mangroves #Sustainability #CoastalProtection #Biodiversity #CarbonSequestration #ClimateChange #Conservation #EcosystemServices #EnvironmentalStewardship

🐾 The eastern chimpanzee is an endangered species, found in Tanzania. Since 2017, one of our flagship portfolio projects, Ntakata Mountains, has prevented 7.5 million trees from destruction and conserved the habitat of these rare chimps. Developed by Carbon Tanzania, this project enables government and community collaboration on the development of Village Land Forest Reserves. These Reserves help farmers from the Bende and Tongwe communities to protect the wildlife found in and around the Greater Mahale Ecosystem. To date, the project has: Protected more than 215,000 hectares of woodland in Western Tanzania. Created 8 Village Land Reserves which are managed by local people. Generated over 3.6 million tonnes of carbon credits. Earned more than US $9,300,000 of carbon revenue. In 2023, local communities earned more than than US $5 million. Supporting nature-based projects, such as Ntakata Mountains, is one way to finance essential conservation work. Today, we celebrate World Lion Day, honoring the magnificent kings of the jungle. Lions are not just symbols of strength and courage; they play a vital role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystems. However, these majestic creatures face numerous threats, including habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and poaching. In India, the Asiatic lion, found in the Gir Forest of Gujarat, is the last surviving population of this subspecies. Once ranging across the Middle East and Asia, the Asiatic lion's numbers dwindled to just 20 individuals by the early 20th century. Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, their population has rebounded to over 600 today. Yet, they remain vulnerable, with their entire population restricted to a single area. India’s efforts to protect the Asiatic lion stand as a beacon of hope for wildlife conservation. As we celebrate World Lion Day, let’s recognize the importance of preserving our natural heritage and the incredible biodiversity that thrives in our country. Every step we take towards conservation is a step towards ensuring these magnificent creatures continue to roam the wild for generations to come. Let’s take a moment to reflect on the importance of preserving our wildlife and the crucial role each species plays in our world. Together, we can make a difference. 🦁🌍 #WorldLionDay #Conservation #ProtectOurWildlife #Leadership #AsiaticLion #India #Biodiversity #Environment

The Majestic Mountain Gorilla 🦍 In the mist-covered mountains of central Africa, one of nature's most magnificent creatures roams the dense forests: the mountain gorilla. These gentle giants, known for their strength, intelligence, and complex social structures, are not only a testament to the wonders of the natural world but also a symbol of the importance of conservation efforts. Mountain gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei) are a subspecies of the eastern gorilla, distinguished by their thick fur, which helps them survive in the colder temperatures of their high-altitude habitats. These primates are predominantly found in the Virunga Mountains, which span the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Weighing up to 440 pounds and standing up to six feet tall when fully mature, mountain gorillas exhibit a remarkable blend of power and gentleness. Their social groups, led by a dominant silverback male, demonstrate complex family dynamics, cooperation, and communication, making them fascinating subjects for scientific study and observation. Mountain gorillas play a crucial role in their ecosystem. As herbivores, they feed on a variety of plants, leaves, and fruits, aiding in seed dispersal and contributing to the health and regeneration of their forest habitats. Their presence indicates a well-balanced and thriving ecosystem, underscoring their importance in maintaining biodiversity. #Conservation #WildlifeProtection #MountainGorillas #EcoTourism #Biodiversity #Sustainability
