Here is your chance to provide feedback on the $144 million library being proposed for Howard County, Maryland. While I really like Dr. Ball and many of the positive changes implemented in Howard County, I am vehemently opposed to spending money on a fancy new library. Howard County needs an additional full-service, level 2 acute care hospital.
One hospital is not enough to serve everyone in the urban and rural areas of the County. Furthermore, adding to the existing hospital is a band aid approach to fixing the inadequate number of hospitals available to serve the population in Howard County. If there is almost $150 million available for the County, a hospital in Ellicott City, Clarksville, or another area in Howard County should be considered a higher priority than building a new library. The average wait time to be seen by a physician in Howard County General's emergency room is 18 to 24 hours.
There is power in numbers! If you live or work in Howard County, Maryland, please attend one of the in-person or virtual meetings to provide input about the proposed $143 million library.
