We (#Phycology Research Group @GhentUniversity) are happy to contribute with a case study to the @BioGenEurope directed "Enhancing Biodiversity Genomics Applications" program. We are aiming to establish reference genomes for Porphyra linearis and Porphyra dioica to support ongoing research. This effort will improve to understand underlying fundamental processes in red macroalgal evolution, adaptation and specifically observed life cycle variations. Besides advancing fundamental knowledge in this ancient lineage of red algae, the added genomic data can help to overcome hurdles in European Porphyra valorisation. Stay tuned for updates on our journey to advance biodiversity genomics! 🧬🌿 #Genomics #Biodiversity @REA_research, @SBFI_CH, @ISBSIB @Eugreenresearch

In a short video, Paul Hebert (University of Guelph) praises the Biodiversity Genomics Europe (BGE) project for its accomplishments in Europe — and what they mean for biodiversity genomics research globally — and for supporting the International Barcode of Life — iBOL Consortium. 📺Watch the video on the BGE's YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/dyj6VjTq
A new year, a new #biodiversity #genomics #Europe video! 💥 In this video, Dr. Paul Hebert, director of the Centre for Biodiversity Genomics (University of Guelph) and scientific director of the International Barcode of Life (iBOL Consortium), looks back (and ahead) on BGE's second year at the recent All Hands Meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece. “Now, two years into the project, it’s absolutely amazing what’s being accomplished in Europe with this network”, says Hebert. “It is really a model for the world at large, where a lot of the lessons that are being learned in Europe aren’t applicable just to this federation, but they’re applicable to the federation of nations around our planet.” 🌐 👉 Watch the full video on our YouTube-channel: https://lnkd.in/eXQ5JFeb #Biodiversity #Genomics #Europe #DNA #eDNA #barcoding #genomesequencing #biodiversity #collaboration European Research Executive Agency (REA) iBOL Europe ERGA - European Reference Genome Atlas International Barcode of Life Consortium Earth BioGenome Project

We are excited to share an update on our ongoing project at the University of Padua. As part of the European Reference Genome Atlas initiative, our focus remains on producing a high-quality genome for Chamelea gallina, a species vital to the Italian blue economy and marine biodiversity. 🧪 Recent Milestones: Our team recently collaborated with colleagues from Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell'Abruzzo e del Molise (IZS Teramo) in Teramo to sample Chamelea gallina tissue. This step is crucial for our DNA and RNA extraction processes, paving the way for in-depth genomic analysis. 🔗 ERGA and PLASTICVONG Connection: We are also pleased to highlight that this ERGA subcontract is closely linked to the PLASTICVONG project, led by Federica Di Giacinto, a researcher working at Water Biology Unit of IZS Teramo. PLASTICVONG aims to assess the exposure to microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) related to human consumption of striped venus clam Chamelea gallina. This synergy between our two groups and institutions (federica di giacinto, Paola Venier, Umberto Rosani, Chiara Profico, Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale Abruzzo e Molise "G. Caporale") enhances our understanding of environmental impacts on marine life and human well-being. #UNIPD #ERGABGE #Genomics #MarineBiology #Sustainability #IZSTeramo #PLASTICVONG - PLASTICOVNG (codice IZS AM 07/22 RC), funded under the "Ricerca corrente 2022" Program of the Italian Ministry of Health. - ERGA BGE Biodiversity Genomics Europe n°101059492 (BGE, Horizon Europe) European Research Executive Agency (REA), ERGA - European Reference Genome Atlas , Biodiversity Genomics Europe

We are glad to present to you WWA (Wood Wide Ants), a Biodiversity Genomics project involving Biodiversity Genomics Europe , SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics , ERGA - European Reference Genome Atlas, and the Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, Università degli Studi di Firenze, Università degli Studi di Pavia. We study the wood ant Formica paralugubris, protected throughout Europe and native to a small area of the Italian Prealps. Largely introduced starting from 1958 along the Italian Apennines, Sicily, Sardinia and foreign countries, this ant has a negative impact on local arthropod populations. The introduced species could however be an important source of genetic diversity, since the original Alpine populations have a low variability and suffered local extinctions. Our Team wants to share its research projects and educate the public on the main aspects of our studies. We are currently looking for stakeholders and new means of scientific communication! #woodant #genomics #citizenscience #sciencecommunication #myrmecology
