HIQA Opens Public Consultation on Shingles Vaccination Assessment The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has started a public consultation to consider adding shingles vaccination to the national immunization program for adults in Ireland. This is in response to a recommendation from the National Immunisation Advisory Committee and a request from the Department of Health. The aim of the assessment is to provide evidence-based advice to the Minister for Health to shape the future of Ireland's immunization schedule. Shingles is a viral infection that mainly affects older individuals and those with weakened immune systems. Currently, shingles vaccines are not subsidized by the Health Service Executive in Ireland. The consultation seeks input from various stakeholders to make shingles vaccines more accessible. HIQA's assessment targets adults over the age of 50 and those at high risk. Preliminary findings have been released for public feedback, and the consultation period ends on April 30, 2024. The potential inclusion of the shingles vaccine in the immunization schedule is an important consideration for public health. #grrf Special Day Update 16 March- National Vaccination Day March 16 is observed as the National Vaccination Day, which is also known as National Immunization Day. It was first celebrated at the time when the National Pulse Polio vaccination drive was launched, in 1995. Vaccination and Immunization People often use the two words, vaccination and immunization, interchangeably. But there is a fundamental difference between the two. While vaccination is the act of giving or administering the vaccine, immunization refers to becoming immune to certain diseases after taking the vaccine shot. Vaccination and immunization are very important in a country's basic health care. Timely vaccination prevents 2 -3 million deaths every year from preventable diseases, according to health and medical experts. In the last 2 decades, India has made significant progress in improving health indicators, particularly those related to child health. The country was certified polio-free in 2014 and eliminated maternal and neonatal tetanus in 2015, according to the UNICEF. Happy National Vaccination Day ! #grrf #vaccination #immunization #health #nationalpulsepolio #unicef #covid19 #unstoppableindian

Immunization awareness shouldn’t be overlooked. Why? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: 💉 Four million deaths are prevented by childhood vaccinations every year 💉More than 50 million deaths can be prevented by 2030 through immunization. 💉Nearly 19 million lives can be saved by 2030 with a measles vaccination. 💉Hepatitis B vaccinations can save around 14 million lives by 2030. That all sounds hopeful, BUT, when it comes to children: 💉Global immunization rates for infants dropped to 81 percent in 2021, the lowest rate in over a decade. 💉25 million one-year-olds didn’t receive basic vaccines through routine immunization. 💉Approximately 11 million infants that live in higher-risk countries are either under or unvaccinated. Life-saving vaccinations are critical and must be easily accessible for everyone.
