Do AI and Empathy go together? Yes! According to Dereck Paul, MD and Helen Riess, M.D. as co-presented at the annual AACE conference this week in New Orleans. “AI tools can be leveraged to reduce the amount of time spent analyzing electronic medical records or other data. This time can then be used to connect with patients in an empathetic way,” said Empathetics Founder and Chief Medical Officer Helen Riess, M.D. Riess cited her work showing improved health outcomes when empathy based care is practiced. She discussed action items to promote empathetic care including: practicing self empathy, institutional support for emapathetic care and empathy training as proven methods to reduce clinician burnout and improve care. AI should be used to support clinicians, freeing up time so they can spend more time with patients. Many thanks to Michael Monostra for writing about the presentation. https://lnkd.in/eRCH95qK

Have you ever thought of the future of rare disease diagnosis and treatment using AI? If not then here is a great article inspired by what Zach DeBruine is doing in making this a reality, covering how generative AI can be used to understand genomic language and make this possible. I am very proud to have had Zach as my professor for machine learning at Grand Valley State University. #gvsu #genAI
Remember why you do what you do. https://lnkd.in/g2A6uv5k. For me, I am motivated by my son's medical journey, and GVMagazine captured this beautifully in the context of our Grand Valley State University student team and Corewell Health clinical genetics partnership. I look forward to sharing what we can do together with Caleb Bupp and so many others.

Clinicians rank patient views as least important in diagnosis, study finds The research, led by a team at the University of Cambridge and Kings’ College London, found that clinicians ranked patient self-assessments as least important in diagnostic decisions, and said that patients both over- and under-played their symptoms more often than patients reported doing so. One patient shared the common feeling of being disbelieved as “degrading […] https://lnkd.in/dx3DKBnQ Cyprus-CEO #CEO #business #management #marketing #tech #AI #legal #money

Several of us consider that one of the biggest joys in life is starting a family. Loving someone so intensely that you know you want a future with them. You know that you want your kids to share those beautiful qualities your loved one has; Maybe it's their kindness, their passion, or their selfless nature when it comes to helping their loved one. It's a feeling and future many of us crave. But it's not a future many women are able to achieve because of PCOS: Polycystic ovary syndrome. PCOS is a condition in where a woman's ovary enlarge and small cysts form on the outer edges. And the most prominent symptom of PCOS is infertility. It's a condition that affects 5 million woman in the U.S. and despite the ongoing clinical trials, there isn't much else being done to research treatments for this condition. It's always important to educate yourself on medical issues such as these. And the best way to do that is by looking at the several articles IndyGeneUS AI has! Educating yourself is a step in the right direction to getting the recognition women need for a better support system. Yusuf Henriques 🇯🇲 Bradford Wilson, PhD Angel N. Managing Director, Strategy & Solutions, at Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Driving healthcare transformation via strategic, science-backed innovation
Artificial Intelligence in the Opioid Crisis: The opioid epidemic has led to a significant number of overdose deaths, pushing health agencies, law enforcement, and providers to adopt tools like Narx Scores and NarxCare platform by Bamboo Health. These tools analyze opioid-prescribing data, similar to how credit scores influence loan terms. However, concerns about the accuracy, bias, and lack of transparency of these algorithms have been raised. As AI continues to permeate the healthcare landscape, the debate over its efficacy and ethical implications intensifies. Despite its potential benefits, researchers, patients, and doctors alike call for more transparency and independent testing to ensure the technology does not cause more harm than good. #AI #Healthcare #OpioidCrisis
